Conditions of Eleyele dam in Ibadan Nigeria inhabited by Melanoides tuberculata

Sustainability of Water Quality and Ecology, 2016
Abstract Melanoides tuberculata is now been monitored worldwide because of its fast growing distribution and its economic importance. M. tuberculata , a freshwater mollusc that is an invasive species of freshwater snail, serves as vector transmitting several diseases causing parasites, was found inhabiting Eleyele dam in Ibadan, Nigeria.

Salt tolerance and survival of the freshwater bioinvasive gastropod Melanoides tuberculata (Thiariidae): when different methodologies tell us different stories

Molluscan Research
The study of the ecophysiology of invasive species is one of the main steps in understanding the dynamics of territorial expansion of these species and establishing prevention, control, and combat measures and protocols.

Haplorchis pumilio (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) as a new fish-borne zoonotic agent transmitted by Melanoides tuberculata (Mollusca: Thiaridae) in Brazil: A morphological and molecular study.

Infection, Genetics and Evolution, 2020
The fishborne zoonotic trematode Haplorchis pumilio (Looss, 1896) is here reported for the first time in Brazil based on morphological, experimental and molecular studies.

Density and variability of dinucleotide microsatellites in the parthenogenetic polyploid snail Melanoides tuberculata

Molecular Ecology, 1998
Characterization of microsatellites in the parthenogenetic polyploid snail Melanoides tuberculata revealed an unusual high density of dinucleotide repeats. Multiple banding patterns were obtained at these loci, and interpreted as a consequence of polyploidy. Microsatellite variability was low within, but high between, shell morphotypes.

A checklist of trematodes (Platyhelminthes) transmitted by Melanoides tuberculata (Mollusca: Thiaridae)

Zootaxa, 2011
A list of species of Trematoda (flukes) transmitted by Melanoides tuberculata (Müller, 1774) is presented based on 136 articles published between 1896 and 2010. This snail species has been reported as an intermediate host for flukes belonging to 17 families, 25 genera and 37 species, including 11 trematodes reported as adults from man.

Sublethal responses in Melanoides tuberculata following exposure to Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii containing cylindrospermopsin

Harmful Algae, 2007
Abstract Sublethal effects in the aquatic snail Melanoides tuberculata were examined during exposure to whole cell extracts of Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii and live C. raciborskii cultures, containing varying concentrations of algal cells, cellular debris, and the blue-green algal toxin, cylindrospermopsin (CYN).

LIFE CYCLE AND IDENTIFICATION OF AN EYEFLUKE FROM ISRAEL TRANSMITTED BY MELANOIDES TUBERCULATA (MÜLLER, 1774)

Journal of Parasitology, 2000
A philophthalmid species from Israel using the freshwater snail Melanoides tuberculata as intermediate host was studied. The biological and morphological characteristics of all developmental stages of the life cycle of this philophthalmid were described, and compared to those of Philophthalmus lucipetus Rudolphi, 1819 from Israel, Philophthalmus gralli

A crepuscular rhythm of locomotor activity in the freshwater prosobranch, Melanoides tuberculata (Müller)

Animal Behaviour, 1979
Abstract Melanoides tuberculata, entrained to a L: D 12 : 12 regimen, exhibits a crepuscular pattern of locomotor activity which persists for 6 to 7 days in both constant light and constant relative darkness at a period which deviates only slightly from 24 h, showing the rhythms to be endogenous.
