Human land-use plays an important role in the distribution of aquatic invasive species. The establishment of these species may have an unpredictable impact on their new environment. We analyzed the establishment of M.

Abstract Invasive alien species continue to spread and proliferate in waterways worldwide, but environmental drivers of invasion dynamics lack assessment. Knowledge gaps are pervasive in the Global South, where the frequent heavy human‐modification of rivers provides high opportunity for invasion.

Recurrent camouflaged invasions and dispersal of an Asian freshwater gastropod in tropical Africa [PDF]
Background: Non-indigenous taxa currently represent a large fraction of the species and biomass of freshwater ecosystems. The accumulation of invasive taxa in combination with other stressors in these ecosystems may alter the habitats to which native ...

Abstract Climate change is expected to alter rainfall and temperature regimes across the world. The hydrology and riparian zone vegetation of lotic ecosystems are tightly linked to rainfall and a mechanistic understanding of the effects of rainfall on lotic ecosystems is needed to forecast the ecological impacts of climate change.

Niche filtering, competition and species turnover in a metacommunity of freshwater molluscs
Metacommunity structure reflects the interplay of various processes, including niche filtering, extinction/colonization and interspecific interactions. Spatial patterns of species distributions are often analyzed to infer these processes. However, such inferences rely on often unrealistic equilibrium assumptions, and remain ambiguous, as different ...

Prevalence of Intestinal Parasites in Captive Asian Elephants (Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758) in Central Nepal. [PDF]
Gastrointestinal parasites (GIPs) are determining factors in the health of Asian Elephants. The current coproscopic study recorded 95.2% prevalence rates with 19 different GIPs from these animals. The major risk factors could be overlapping niches with domestic and wild animals, irregular medication and the existence of critical stressors. .
