Predation effects of Melanoides tuberculatus Müller 1774) on periphytic biofilm colonization: an experimental approach [PDF]
The present study evaluated the predation effects of the gastropod Melanoides tuberculatus on the taxa richness and density of the periphyton community. A laboratory experiment was conducted with two treatments: control (without M. tuberculatus) and with M. tuberculatus, each treatment being replicated four times.

Parasitic Castration in Freshwater Snail Melanoides tuberculatus (Mollusca: Gastropoda)
Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences India Section B - Biological Sciences, 2012Structure of ovotestis and its parasitic castration were observed histologically in hermaphrodite freshwater snail Melanoides tuberculatus (Mollusca, Gastropoda). In mature healthy snail ovotestis was found to be closely associated with posterior region of digestive gland.

First record of the invasive snail Melanoides tuberculatus (Gastropoda: Prosobranchia: Thiaridae) in the Paranã River basin, GO, Brazil [PDF]
The Thiarid snail Melanoides tuberculatus (Müller, 1774), native to Asia and East Africa was recorded for the first time in the Paranã River basin, Goiás State. There is no evidence concerning introduction vectors but aquarium releases is the most probable vector.

Considerable research has been conducted to determine traits common to invasive species with the goal of predicting, preventing, or managing invasions. The importance of physiological tolerance to abiotic stressors in the ability of invasive species to establish and displace native species has been hypothesized to be important although there are few ...

First record of Melanoides tuberculatus (Müller, 1774) and Biomphalaria tenagophila (d´Orbigny, 1835) on Ilha Grande, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil [PDF]
Small populations of Melanoides tuberculatus (Müller, 1774) and Biomphalaria tenagophila (d´Orbigny, 1835), were found at Vila do Abraão, being the first record of these species to Ilha Grande, Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro. They were probably introduced after 2004, perhaps following release from aquaria.

Melanoides tuberculatus (Gastropoda: Thiaridae) as intermediate host of Heterophyidae (Trematoda: Digenea) in Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, Brazil [PDF]
In the late 1960s, Melanoides tuberculatus snails were introduced in Brazil from North/East Africa and Southeast Asia. The first records of specimens infected with cercariae were registered in Rio de Janeiro State in 2001. The present study reports the occurrence of M. tuberculatus infected with larval trematodes in Rio de Janeiro City. Bottom sediment

An account is given of the effects of infection in the digestive gland ofMelanoides tuberculatus (Muller) by a monostome larval trematode. The distinction into four types of cells of the tubules of digestive gland as seen in the normal uninfected gland is lost due to this infection.
