AbstractMelipona quadrifasciata and Melipona rufiventris are stingless bee species which present low and high heterochromatin content, respectively, on their mitotic chromosomes as assessed visually after a C‐banding assay. However, these species do not show differences in the C‐banding responses of their Malpighian tubule interphase nuclei.

Melipona favosa Pot-Honey from Venezuela
2012The stingless bee Melipona favosa lives in the plains and coastal areas of Venezuela. It is a gentle bee known locally as “erica” and “maba.” This bee commonly nests in trees, walls, fence posts, and is kept in hives by traditional stingless beekeepers. Its honey can ferment inside sealed storage pots of the nest.
