Honey physicochemical properties of three species of the brazilian Melipona

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2012
Physicochemical analyses were carried out to evaluate 27 samples of honeys from three species of the Brazilian genus Melipona (M. capixaba, M. rufiventris and M. mondury) from Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais States.

Insects as Food and Feed Source: A Comprehensive Review on Nutritional Value, Food Safety Concern, Environmental Benefits, Economic Potential, Technological Innovations, Challenges, and Future Prospects

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 6, Issue 6, Page 2591-2646, November 2025.
Edible insects offer a sustainable protein source, requiring fewer resources than traditional livestock. Despite challenges, they have the potential to enhance food security and sustainability for a growing global population. ABSTRACT As the world faces an escalating protein crisis amid climate change, population growth, and resource scarcity, edible ...

THERMODYNAMICS IN NESTS OF TWO MELIPONA SPECIES IN BRASIL [PDF]

open access: yesActa Amazonica, 1983
SUMMARY Thermodynamics within 10 nests of Melipona rufiventris and M. seminigra were recorded during 48 horurs with thermocouple probes. Strikingly similar patterns were found for both species. Homeostasis did not occur; temperatures within the brood area, honey and pollen stored in pots and nest cavity space all followed ambient temperature ...

Floral preferences of a neotropical stingless bee, Melipona quadrifasciata Lepeletier (Apidae: Meliponina) in an urban forest fragment

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
Species of plants used by Melipona quadrifasciata Lepeletier for pollen and nectar gathering in an urban forest fragment were recorded in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Melipona quadrifasciata visited 22 out of 103 flowering plant species.

Local and landscape features of urban fragments determine the occurrence of stingless bees As características locais e paisagísticas dos fragmentos urbanos determinam a ocorrência de uma espécie de abelhas sem ferrão

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 1027-1036, November 2025.
Both local and landscape factors associated with habitat availability and quality determine the persistence of stingless bees across fragments. Places where the species occurs have local and landscape characteristics distinctive from those where it is absent.

Comparative molecular cytogenetics in Melipona Illiger species (Hymenoptera, Apidae)

open access: yesSociobiology, 2018
Cytogenetic studies in Melipona are scarce with only 24 species analyzed cytogenetically. Of these, six species had the rDNA sites physically mapped and characterized by Fluorescent in situ Hybridization (fish).

Integrating Population Genomics and Historical Occurrence Data to Assess the Impact of Land‐Use Changes on Centris Oil Bees in the Brazilian Cerrado

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 22, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Habitat loss and fragmentation (HLF) are among the major drivers of bee decline, yet closely related species often show contrasting responses depending on their ecological and demographic traits. The Brazilian Cerrado biodiversity hotspot experiences among the world's highest rates of HLF.

Effect of food location and quality on recruitment sounds and success in two stingless bees, Melipona mandacaia and Melipona bicolor

open access: yesBehavioral Ecology and Sociobiology, 2003
It is unclear whether stingless bees in the genus Melipona (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponini) can reli- ably encode the distance to a food source through recruitment sounds produced inside the nest, in part because the sound features correlated with distance also vary with food quality.
