Native and ornamental exotic resources in pollen loads and garbage pellets of four stingless bees (Apidae, Meliponini) in an urban environment with riparian native forest [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
An entomopalynological study to assess pollen use by wild bees was performed in an urban environment with riparian native forest in the Chaco region of Argentina.

Foraging Activity in Plebeia remota, a Stingless Bees Species, Is Influenced by the Reproductive State of a Colony

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2010, Issue 1, 2010., 2010
Colonies of the Brazilian stingless bee Plebeia remota show a reproductive diapause in autumn and winter. Therefore, they present two distinct reproductive states, during which colony needs are putatively different. Consequently, foraging should be adapted to the different needs.

The deposition of anal excretions by Melipona favosa foragers (Apidae: Meliponinae): behavioural observations concerning the location of food sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Melipona favosa consistently deposited anal excretions while foraging. Anal depositions were released more frequently and by more bees on artificial food sources at a greater distance from the nest.

L’élevage des abeilles mélipones sur l’île de Cuba : une enquête ethnozoologique réalisée dans la plaine du río Mayabeque et la forêt de la Sierra del Rosario

open access: yesÉtudes Caribéennes, 2014
In central America, stingless beekeeping is a practice older than two thousand years which reached its peak at the end of the Maya era. The melipona sub-family which these bees belong to gather more than 500 species mainly in the intertropical area. Most

When resistance is useless: policing and the evolution of reproductive acquiescence in insect societies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004

Novel diagnostic tools for Asian (Apis cerana) and European (Apis mellifera) honey authentication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Honey can be produced by different species of honeybees, with two being of economic importance due to their use in apiculture, namely Apis mellifera (known as European honeybee) and Apis cerana (known as Asian honeybee).

Superinfection Exclusion in Neotropical Honey Bees May Block DWV‐B, an Emerging Infectious Disease Variant of Deformed Wing Virus

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT RNA viruses often comprise multiple variants that co‐circulate in a host population, with potentially complex dynamics. Deformed wing virus (DWV), arguably the most impactful virus of honey bees (Apis mellifera), nowadays exists as two major variants, genotypes A (DWV‐A) and B (DWV‐B), which provide an amenable window into the dynamics of ...

Enhancing Lasioglossum (Homalictus) dotatum (Hymenoptera: Halictidae) habitats: The role of rock gravel in bare soil landscapes

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 64, Issue 2, May 2025.
Abstract Native bee populations are generally in decline, and although their conservation needs are recognised, habitat requirements for the majority of species remain unknown. Many bee species construct nests underground, including the native Australian bee Lasioglossum (Homalictus) dotatum.
