Review of Scaura Schwarz, 1938 (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Meliponini)

Zootaxa, 2019
Scaura Schwarz is a small, widely distributed Neotropical genus of stingless bees whose workers and males have the metabasitarsus as broad as or wider than the metatibia. The genus currently includes four valid species. A species complex composed of three additional species are described here as new (S. amazonica sp. n., S. aspera sp. n.

Colony reproduction in Tetragonisca angustula (Apidae, Meliponini)

Insectes Sociaux, 2000
Colony multiplication of the neotropical stingless bee Tetragonisca angustula started with the finding of a new nesting site by scout bees, followed by the cleaning of the cavity. Cerumen was flown in from the mother colony for the sealing of crevices and the construction of an entrance tube.

INTEGUMENTAL MICROSTRUCTURES OF STINGLESS BEES (APOIDEA: APIDAE: MELIPONINI)

Entomologica Americana, 2021
Herein, microstructures (setae, spicules, and multi-pronged spicules) found on 1) the outer surfaces of mature larvae of stingless bees (Meliponini) and 2) the posterior surfaces of the hind legs of adult workers of these same bees are described, anatomically compared, and their functions assessed.

Trap-nests for stingless bees (Hymenoptera, Meliponini)

Apidologie, 2012
Most stingless bee species build their nests inside tree hollows. In this paper, we present trap-nest containers which simulate nesting cavities so as to attract swarms of stingless bees. Although regularly used by stingless bee beekeepers in Brazil, this technique to obtain new colonies has not yet been systematically studied.

Deceptive orchids with meliponini as pollinators

Plant Systematics and Evolution, 2000
Visitation of orchids by Meliponini (stingless bees) is confirmed only in 13 Melipona, Partamona and Trigona, for Xylobium and Maxillaria, with the addition of Trigona fulviventris visiting Ionopsis. Some bees evinced multiple floral visitation by carrying several stipes and viscidia from pollinaria, thus may cause seed set.

Stingless Bees (Meliponini)

2020
The stingless bees represent one of the pinnacles of social organization among insects. Among their distinguishing features are very high species diversity with extreme variation in body size, large,...

Stingless Bees (Hymenoptera: Apoidea: Meliponini) of French Guiana

2012
Eighty species of meliponine bees are listed from French Guiana. Distribution records are given for each species. Voucher specimens are preserved in the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (various collectors), Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (Roubik collection), Natural History Museum in Lawrence, Kansas, and University of Sao Paulo in

Comparative Toxicity of Pesticides to Stingless Bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Meliponini)

Journal of Economic Entomology, 2009
Stingless bees are potential pollinators of commercial tropical crops and their use may increase in the short term. However, studies comparing the toxicity of pesticides to different individuals and species are lacking, making it difficult to evaluate their short- and long-term effects on colonies and populations of these insects.

Morphometric Analysis in Stingless Bee (Apidae meliponini) Diversity

2022
Insects occur in large numbers. Therefore, it is important to have a system to identify the different species of insects. Traditional morphological identification of insects requires an experienced entomologist while molecular techniques require laboratory expertise and involve substantial costs.
