Fundamental Theory of the Melnikov Function Method

2012
Chapter 6 introduces the fundamental theory of Melnikov function method. Basic definitions and fundamental lemmas are presented. A main theory on the number of limit cycles is given.

Melnikov method approach to control of homoclinic/heteroclinic chaos by weak harmonic excitations

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2004
A review on the application of Melnikov's method to control homoclinic and heteroclinic chaos in low-dimensional, non-autonomous and dissipative oscillator systems by weak harmonic excitations is presented, including diverse applications, such as chaotic

A Melnikov Method for Strongly Odd Nonlinear Oscillators

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1998
In this paper, explicit calculations that extend the applicability of the Melnikov method to include strongly odd nonlinear and large forcing amplitude oscillating systems, are presented. We consider the response of the strongly nonlinear oscillating system governed by an equation of motion containing a parameter ε which need not be small ...

Melnikov method for discontinuous planar systems

Nonlinear Analysis: Theory, Methods & Applications, 2007
This paper deals with the existence of a homoclinic solution in planar systems with discontinuous right-hand side. In fact, these type of systems are more used in practical problems than the classical planar differential systems and this article serves to a generalization of the Melnikov function to these discontinuous right-hand side systems.

Melnikov-Type Method for a Class of Discontinuous Planar Systems and Applications

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2014
In this paper, we extend the well-known Melnikov method for smooth systems to a class of periodic perturbed piecewise smooth planar system. We assume that the unperturbed system is a piecewise Hamiltonian system which possesses a piecewise smooth homoclinic solution transversally crossing the switching manifold.

Melnikov’s method for nonperiodic perturbations and the bifurcations in a Josephson junction

Physical Review B, 1987
We consider a Josephson junction with an applied dc current and nonperiodic time-dependent magnetic field. Despite this nonperiodicity, one may use Melnikov's method to derive the bifurcation curves analytically. We give the critical theoretical value I/sub c/ of the dc current separating qualitatively different regions, essentially one region where ...

Analysis of torsional vibration characteristics for wind turbine drivetrain under external excitation

Journal of Vibration and Control
This work studies the torsional vibration characteristics analysis of the wind turbine drivetrain with the variation of internal parameter and external excitation.
