Design and fabrication of scaffolds via melt electrospinning for applications in tissue engineering

open access: yes, 2015
Melt electrospinning is a manufacturing technique that can be adapted into a direct writing process, similar to those based on melt extrusion. The resultant product is a three-dimensional (3D) scaffold with significantly reduced filament resolution ...

Electrospun Wood‐Derived Biopolymers as Electrodes in Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrospinning transforms wood‐derived cellulose and lignin into architecturally defined, binder‐free carbon electrodes with tuneable porosity and functionality. This review shows how fibre design enables decoupled charge and mass transport, enhancing performance across battery systems, while identifying key challenges in spinnability, scalability ...

Highly architectural MEW scaffolds with superior performance

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Melt electrospinning writing (MEW) combines the fundamental principles of electrospinning, a fiber forming technology, and 3D printing. The process, however, is highly complex and the quality of the fabricated structures strongly depends on the interplay

Dermal fibroblast infiltration of poly(ε-caprolactone) scaffolds fabricated by melt electrospinning in a direct writing mode [PDF]

open access: yesBiofabrication, 2013
Melt electrospinning in a direct writing mode is a recent additive manufacturing approach to fabricate porous scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. In this study, we describe porous and cell-invasive poly (ε-caprolactone) scaffolds fabricated by combining melt electrospinning and a programmable x-y stage.

Computed Tomography‐ and Photoacoustic Imaging‐Active Bioresorbable Electrospun Bismuth Nanoparticle‐Infused Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A polymeric graft loaded with radiopaque bismuth nanoparticles is expected to undergo gradual polymer resorption and nanoparticle release. This design enables noninvasive, multimodal monitoring of device integrity, patency, and degradation using computed tomography alongside ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging over 12 weeks.

Morphological Characterization of Spherulites in Silk‐Polycaprolactone Mixtures: Implications for Textured Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Blending silk fibroin with polycaprolactone alters crystalline organization and surface morphology. Low fibroin levels promote ring‐banded spherulites, while higher contents generate porous, pit‐like textures, though overall crystallinity remains unchanged. Solvent evaporation further modulates surface patterns.
