Removal of Inclusions from Melts

2021
Abstract Inclusion origins and the methods for determining the content of inclusions in a melt are described. Removal of inclusions by flotation/settling is demonstrated. The method for removing inclusions from molten metals by bubbling is described in detail with attachment mechanism to bubbles.

High-temperature metamorphism and crustal melting: working with melt inclusions

Periodico di Mineralogia, 2015
The application of melt inclusion (MI) studies to migmatitic and granulitic terranes is a recent, small-scale approach for a better understanding of melting in the continental crust. In order to show the role of anatectic MI in providing a wealth of microstructural and compositional information on high-temperature metamorphism and crustal anatexis, we ...

Volatile loss during homogenization of lunar melt inclusions

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Science Letters, 2017
Volatile abundances in lunar mantle are critical factors to consider for constraining the model of Moon formation. Recently, the earlier understanding of a “dry” Moon has shifted to a fairly “wet” Moon due to the detection of measurable amount of H_2O in

Melt Inclusions in Zircon

Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry, 2003
Silicate melt inclusions (MI) are small samples of melt that are trapped during crystal growth at magmatic pressures and temperatures. The MI represent a sample of the melt that was isolated from the bulk melt during host crystallization. Thus, MI preserve the composition of the melt that was present during crystal growth and record the P-T growth ...

Initiation of melting beneath the Oslo rift: a melt inclusion perspective

Chemical Geology, 2002
Abstract This study of the most primitive magmas in the Permo–Carboniferous Oslo magmatic system aims at understanding the initial phases of magmatism in a rift-related environment. Primary melt inclusions are investigated from two compositional types of pyroxene: Cr-diopside and Ti-augite, found within the alkaline Skien basalts, southern Norway ...

“Nanogranite” and glassy inclusions: The anatectic melt in migmatites and granulites

Geology, 2009
Using as a case study a granulite from the Kerala Khondalite Belt, India, we show that a former anatectic melt can be preserved as tiny (

On the Measurement of Inclusions in Copper-Based Melts

Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 1989
AbstractAn Electric Sensing Zone (E.S.Z.) technique for the direct measurement of the number density and size distribution of inclusions in molten metals, with particular reference to copper and copper-beryllium alloys is described. In the probe assembly, the sensing zone is an orifice set in the lower end of a quartz tube.

Melt Inclusions in Accessory Zircon

Microscopy Today
Abstract Melt inclusions in zircon refer to tiny pockets of molten rock (magma) that become trapped within the crystal as it forms. These structures provide valuable information about the conditions and composition of the magma at the time of zircon’s formation.

Melting and solidification of bismuth inclusions in aluminium

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1995
Supercooling of crystalline bismuth inclusions in aluminium crystals has been observed and studied with different techniques: X-ray diffraction, in situ Rutherford backscattering/channelling spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy. The results of the measurements with different experimental methods (and on different samples) agree remarkably ...
