Polymerically Modified Layered Silicates: An Effective Route to Nanocomposites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Polymer/clay nanocomposites have been under an extensive investigation for about 15 years. Traditional methods to modify the clay are usually limited to small organic cations, preferably containing long alkyl chain(s), which are exchanged with the ...

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

Nitrile rubber - based nanocomposites prepared by melt mixing: effect of the mixing parameters on mechanical, dynamic-mechanical and creep behavior

open access: yesPolímeros, 2010
Nanocomposites constituted by nitrile rubber matrix and Cloisite 15A (OC15A) as the organoclay were prepared by melt blending and cured with the m-phenylene-bis-maleimide (BMI)/dicumyl peroxide (DCP) system.

Magnetic susceptibility study of hydrated and non-hydrated NaxCoO2-yH2O single crystals

open access: yes, 2004
We have measured the magnetic susceptibility of single crystal samples of non-hydrated NaxCoO2 (x ~ 0.75, 0.67, 0.5, and 0.3) and hydrated Na0.3CoO2-yH2O (y ~ 0, 0.6, 1.3). Our measurements reveal considerable anisotropy between the susceptibilities with

Review of Thin Lithium Metal Battery Anode Fabrication – Microstructure – Electrochemistry Relations

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Thin, lightweight lithium‐metal anodes are pivotal for practical high‐energy batteries. This review surveys processing routes that convert diverse Li precursors, e.g., ingots, melts, solutions, and vapor, into Li‐rich foils with controlled thickness, areal density, and tailored functionality.

Variation of anions in layered double hydroxides: Effects on dispersion and fire properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are interesting materials for nanocomposite formation because one can vary the identity of the metals, the anions and the stoichiometry to see the effect of these on the ability of the nano-material to disperse in a ...
