Landscape Controls River Continuum Dissolved Organic Carbon in Northeastern Alaska
Abstract Rivers draining continuous permafrost landscapes on the North Slope of Alaska span from the mountains to the coast, integrating gradients in vegetation, soil organic matter, and hydrologic flow. We investigated how these landscape transitions influence dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations, radiocarbon ages, and export along the river ...

Abstract Radiative transfer (RT) models typically solve the radiative transfer equation separately in either the atmosphere or the ocean, limiting accuracy across the atmosphere‐ocean interface. Here, we employ a coupled scalar discrete ordinate RT model to examine methods for the input of measured inherent optical properties (IOPs) of oceanic ...

Abstract Increased freshwater discharge from Arctic glaciers modifies the carbonate chemistry of coastal fjords. We investigated the carbon isotopic composition (Δ14C and δ13C) of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in Kongsfjorden, Svalbard, to evaluate how freshwater inputs and water‐mass exchange shape fjord carbon dynamics.

Click chemistry with DNA [PDF]
The advent of click chemistry has led to an influx of new ideas in the nucleic acids field. The copper catalysed alkyne–azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction is the method of choice for DNA click chemistry due to its remarkable efficiency.

Processes Impacting the Fate of Small River Plumes Following Storms
Abstract We investigate conditions for small discharge plume formation and transport using observations near a low‐inflow estuary in San Diego, CA. We find that the precise timing of discharge and tides influences the source region of small plumes and determines when plume formation occurs.

Abstract Sea ice plays a critical role in the Southern Ocean freshwater budget and influences water mass transformation (WMT) by redistributing freshwater across density classes. However, the mechanisms driving inter‐model spread in this process remain poorly understood.

Solution coordination chemistry of actinides: Thermodynamics, structure and reaction mechanisms
31 pagesThe emphasis of this review is on the combination of experimental and theoretical methods to obtain microscopic information on the chemistry of actinides in aqueous solution. A brief discussion is given of some important experimental methods that

Beyond Thickness: A Global Energy‐Based Assessment of Barrier Layer Insulation
Abstract Barrier layers (BLs) reduce vertical mixing and limit the cold‐thermocline‐water entrainment into the mixed layer, influencing a wide range of air–sea interaction processes and ocean dynamics. They are conventionally characterized by their barrier layer thickness (BLT), but BLT cannot quantify either the density‐stratification intensity or the

Associations Between the Seasonal Darkening of the Greenland Ice Sheet and the Duration of Bare Ice
Abstract Darkening of the Greenland ice sheet is known to amplify surface melting. Here, analysis of automatic weather station (AWS) data around the ice sheet and satellite‐derived albedo data reveals that the bare ice duration (BID) is a predictor of the average albedo during summer (June through August, JJA, α¯JJA ${\bar{\alpha }}_{\mathrm{JJA ...
