Synthesis, structure and pyrolysis of stabilised phosphonium ylides containing saturated oxygen heterocycles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A range of twelve stabilised phosphonium ylides containing tetrahydrofuran, tetrahydropyran or 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane rings have been prepared and fully characterised, including one X-ray structure determination of each type.

The Impact of Fronts and Eddies Under Various Melt Conditions on Antarctic Ice Shelves

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract Ocean eddies are observed beneath Antarctic ice shelves, yet their role in regulating basal melting remains unclear. We use nonhydrostatic Large‐Eddy Simulations that resolve eddies and boundary‐layer turbulence to examine a baroclinically unstable salinity front that breaks into eddies.

Glacial meltwater impacts marine carbonate chemistry on Iceland's continental shelf

open access: yes
Increased meltwater runoff from glaciers may drive localized ocean acidification and impact carbon dioxide (CO2) uptake in the coastal ocean. However, the paucity of carbonate system observations from continental shelves receiving inputs from glaciers ...

Permafrost Degradation Drives Shifts in Chemostasis and Stream Geochemistry in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract In the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica's largest ice‐free area, the stream channels consist of rock and sediment that are underlain by permafrost. Substantial permafrost degradation and channel erosion occurred in January 2012 on the west branch of Crescent Stream, while the east branch remained unaffected.

Tracking Dissolved Trace and Heavy Metals in the Ganga River From Source to Sink: A Baseline to Judge Future Changes

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2020
Understanding how dissolved trace elements chemically evolve in the Ganga River from source to sink is important to understand subcatchment contributions and chemical variability across space and time but remains poorly constrained.

Sedimentology and geochemistry of the recent sediments of the river system on Hurd Peninsula, Livingston Island, Antarctica

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 4, September 2026.
This study investigates the sedimentology and geochemistry of recent sediments from ephemeral river systems on Hurd Peninsula, Livingston Island, Antarctica. These systems are important for understanding sedimentary and geochemical processes in unique polar environments.

Potential subglacial lake locations and meltwater drainage pathways beneath the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We use the Shreve hydraulic potential equation as a simplified approach to investigate potential subglacial lake locations and meltwater drainage pathways beneath the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets. We validate the method by demonstrating its ability

Strontium and boron isotope fingerprints reveal marine and crustal controls on chemistry of Arctic meltwaters

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
Resolving the origin and flowpaths of meltwaters in Arctic glacierized catchments, beyond the traditional atmospheric versus water-rock framework, is crucial for understanding how weathering processes evolve with glacier retreat and regulate solute ...

Influence of glacial water and carbonate minerals on wintertime sea-ice biogeochemistry and the CO2 system in an Arctic fjord in Svalbard

open access: yesAnnals of Glaciology, 2020
The effect of freshwater sources on wintertime sea-ice CO2 processes was studied from the glacier front to the outer Tempelfjorden, Svalbard, in sea ice, glacier ice, brine and snow.
