Membership Functions and Their Assessment
1978Membership functions and their assessment present a problem of paramount importance. Its neglect would further delay any real applications of the fuzzy set theory. Membership functions are not ‘given’ and they can not be arbitrarily assumed. A systematic assessment procedure, designed to externalize decision maker’s perception of fuzziness is ...

The chapter presents basic concepts and methods used in defining membership functions of fuzzy sets. Usual problems of fuzzy set applications connected with the universe of discourse, shape, and accuracy of membership functions as well as with their acquisition are discussed.

A Naïve Construction Model of Membership Function
2018 IEEE SmartWorld, Ubiquitous Intelligence & Computing, Advanced & Trusted Computing, Scalable Computing & Communications, Cloud & Big Data Computing, Internet of People and Smart City Innovation (SmartWorld/SCALCOM/UIC/ATC/CBDCom/IOP/SCI), 2018General documents on fuzzy description logic are rarely concerned with construction approaches of membership functions in fuzzy sets. We present a theoretical framework of hierarchically constructing membership functions, called naive membership function model, by using the theory of type 2 fuzzy sets and of level 2 fuzzy sets in fuzzy sets.
