Nanoparticle biointerfacing via platelet membrane cloaking
Development of functional nanoparticles can be encumbered by unanticipated material properties and biological events, which can affect nanoparticle effectiveness in complex, physiologically relevant systems.

VASP was found to be overexpressed in metastatic oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues. Notably, PTTG1‐ and VASP‐deficient OSCC cells demonstrated suppressed metastatic properties by disrupting the interaction between the cytoskeleton and focal adhesion (FAs) in the filopodia region.

Tumor microenvironment drives cancer formation and progression. We analyzed the role of human cancer‐associated adipocytes from patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stratified as lean, overweight, or obese. RNA‐seq demonstrated that, among the most altered genes involved in the tumor–stroma crosstalk, are ADAM12 and CYP1B1, which were proven to be ...

TIM23-mediated insertion of transmembrane alpha-helices into the mitochondrial inner membrane [PDF]
While overall hydrophobicity is generally recognized as the main characteristic of transmembrane (TM) alpha-helices, the only membrane system for which there are detailed quantitative data on how different amino acids contribute to the overall efficiency

Bacterial membrane lipids: diversity in structures and pathways.
For many decades, Escherichia coli was the main model organism for the study of bacterial membrane lipids. The results obtained served as a blueprint for membrane lipid biochemistry, but it is clear now that there is no such thing as a typical bacterial ...

Large multidimensional digital images of cancer tissue are becoming prolific, but many challenges exist to automatically extract relevant information from them using computational tools. We describe publicly available resources that have been developed jointly by expert and non‐expert computational biologists working together during a virtual hackathon

Models of dynamic extraction of lipid tethers from cell membranes
When a ligand that is bound to an integral membrane receptor is pulled, the membrane and the underlying cytoskeleton can deform before either the membrane delaminates from the cytoskeleton or the ligand detaches from the receptor.

Plasma membrane changes during programmed cell deaths
Ruptured and intact plasma membranes are classically considered as hallmarks of necrotic and apoptotic cell death, respectively. As such, apoptosis is usually considered a non-inflammatory process while necrosis triggers inflammation.
