Fouling and Mitigation Behavior of Foulants on Ion Exchange Membranes with Surface Property in Reverse Electrodialysis

open access: yesMembranes, 2023
In this study, two different types of ion exchange membranes are used to investigate the tendency of membrane fouling with respect to surface roughness and hydrophilicity.

Molecular dynamics simulations of the interactions of potential foulant molecules and a reverse osmosis membrane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Reverse osmosis (RO) is increasingly one of the most common technologies for desalination worldwide. However, fouling of the membranes used in the RO process remains one of the main challenges. In order to better understand the molecular basis of fouling

The Application and Research of the GA-BP Neural Network Algorithm in the MBR Membrane Fouling

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2014
It is one of the important issues in the field of today's sewage treatment of researching the MBR membrane flux prediction for membrane fouling. Firstly this paper used the principal component analysis method to achieve dimensionality and correlation of ...

Modelling the microfiltration of lactic acid fermentation broths and comparison of operating modes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
clarification of fermentation broths by cross-flow microfiltration. Microfiltration experiments conducted under constant transmembrane pressure and under constant permeate fluxes (higher and lower than the critical flux) were represented by the ...

Cool Kitchen: Processing Starch and Eggshell Powder into Sustainable Coatings for Passive Daytime Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A food‐grade cooling composite made from starch and recycled eggshell powder offers a scalable, ultra‐low‐cost solution for passive daytime radiative cooling. Easily prepared using basic kitchen tools, this material empowers communities, even in areas with limited infrastructure, to stay cooler during worsening summer heat waves.

Optimization study of the fouling build-up on a RO membrane for pretrated olive mill wastewater purification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Even though membranes are considered in many aspects a mature technology, a range of features are still in development and under investigation. Regarding this, the main handicap of this technology is inevitably membrane fouling.

A Rotary Spacer System for Energy-Efficient Membrane Fouling Control in Oil/Water Emulsion Filtration

open access: yesMembranes, 2022
Membrane fouling deteriorates membrane filtration performances. Hence, mitigating membrane fouling is the key factor in sustaining the membrane process, particularly when treating fouling-prone feed, such as oil/water emulsions.

Bioinspired Polypeptide Dendrimer‐Modified Thin‐Film Composite Membranes for Selective Lithium‐Magnesium Separation with DFT Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We fabricated a biomimetic dendrimer‐modified thin‐film nanocomposite membrane with a coordination‐assisted ion‐selective interface. pH‐responsive polypeptide sites preferentially bind Mg2+ and promote Li+ permeation, as predicted by density functional theory calculations of metal‐ligand interactions.
