Platelet Membrane Glycoproteins
, 2017Platelets are small anucleate blood cells that are produced in the bone marrow from the cytoplasm of megakaryocytes. Circulating platelets are essential for primary hemostasis and also involved in pathological thrombosis. For the platelet hemostatic functions, platelet surface membrane glycoproteins are crucial to form platelet-subendothelial matrix ...

Membrane Glycoproteins in Cryopreserved Platelets
Vox Sanguinis, 1994AbstractAlthough platelets stored by cryopreservation are effective in hemostasis, they acquire a number of functional defects during storage and preparation for transfusion. In addition to known acquired defects such as defective aggregation, decreased resistance to hypotonic shock, and disc‐spherocyte transformation, we have shown that cryopreserved ...

Identification of glycoproteins on nitrocellulose membranes and gels [PDF]
In this article we describe a procedure for the detection of glycoproteins on gels employing the periodic acid-Schiff's reagent. In addition, a number of staining protocols and direct binding ELISA, employing antibodies and lectins, are described for the identification and quantitation of glycoproteins after their immobilization by dot, slot, or ...

The membrane glycoproteins of the malignant cell
Clinical Biochemistry, 1980Experiments are described and reviewed demonstrating that the bound carbohydrates of glycoproteins of many forms of malignant cells differ from their normal counterpart. The difference involves many oligosaccharide groups and is essentially quantitative. The characteristics of the difference are discussed.

Summary1. Although the classical models of biomembranes have emphasized the lipid and protein nature of these structures, a small quantity of carbohydrate is present as glycoprotein and glycolipid in animal cell membranes. In this article an attempt has been made to indicate that such carbohydrate materials should be considered in any complete model of

An intrinsic membrane glycoprotein of the lens
Current Eye Research, 1986A major glycoprotein of relative molecular weight of 130,000 daltons of chick lens cell membranes was identified by Concanavalin-A staining and enriched for by Con A-Sepharose chromatography. Using both Con A binding and immunological analyses with a specific polyclonal antibody, the glycoprotein was detected in chick lens epithelium, annular pad ...

Permeability of the Synovial Membrane to Glycoproteins
Nature, 1961ELECTROPHORETIC investigations have indicated differences in glycoprotein pattern between serum and synovial fluid1–3. The most marked difference is that the relative amount of α2-glycoproteins is considerably less in synovial fluid than in serum. It was recently demonstrated4 that the low α2-content of rheumatoid arthritic synovial fluid is mainly due

Membrane glycoprotein choreography
Current Biology, 1991It is generally understood that interactions of the integral plasma membrane proteins with the underlying cytoskeleton are responsible for many cellular processes, including cell motility, cell adhesion, cell polarity, and membrane internalization. Although a few membranecytoskeletal interactions have been defined at the molecular level, there has been

Dimerization of the P-glycoprotein in membranes
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1990Plasma membranes from a CHO cell line, CHRC5, which exhibits multidrug resistance was studied using radiation inactivation analysis. The P-glycoprotein content of the membrane was determined by Western blots. Irradiation resulted in the loss of P-glycoprotein.

Proteins and glycoproteins of the erythrocyte membrane
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1972Abstract Erythrocyte membranes from several species were prepared by three different methods of hypotonic hemolysis and examined for variations in protein and glycoprotein content by acrylamide gel electrophoresis in sodium dodecyl sulfate. Significant variations were noted in morphology of the membranes prepared by the different methods without ...
