In vitro evaluation of a newly developed implantable artificial lung. [PDF]
A prototype of an implantable artificial lung without a pump (Prototype II) has been tested. A commercially available membrane oxygenator, MENOX AL6000alpha R (Dainippon Ink and Chemicals, Inc., Tokyo, Japan), was used as a basic model.

Modulating Electrochemical CO2 Reduction Pathways via Interfacial Electric Field
Engineering interfacial electric fields in Cu/ITO electrodes enables precise control of CO2 reduction pathways. Charge transfer from Cu to ITO generates positively charged Cu species that steer selectivity from ethylene toward methane. This work demonstrates how interfacial electric‐field modulation can direct reaction intermediates and transform ...

Absence of reflex vascular responses from the intrapulmonary circulation in anaesthetised dogs [PDF]
The aim of this investigation was to determine whether reflex cardiovascular responses were obtained to localised distension of the intrapulmonary arterial and venous circulations in a preparation in which the stimuli to other major reflexogenic areas ...

Oxygen Profiles in Membranes [PDF]
Transmembrane profiles of molecular oxygen in lipid bilayers are not only significant for membrane physiology and pathology, but also are essential to the determination of membrane protein structure by site-directed spin labeling. Oxygen profiles obtained with spin-labeled lipid chains have a Boltzmann sigmoidal dependence on the depth into each lipid ...

This study demonstrates that pulsed potential electrolysis significantly improves CO2 reduction performance on copper‐nitrogen doped carbon electrodes. The formation of cationic copper sites and metallic clusters as a function of applied intermittent potential leads to notable selectivity changes compared to potentiostatic reduction.

Acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock: an algorithm based ECMO program can improve clinical outcomes. [PDF]
Objective: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in our institution resulted in near total mortality prior to the establishment of an algorithm-based program in July 2010. We hypothesized that an algorithm based ECMO program improves the outcome of

Mobile Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation
To review our experience with mobile extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Mobile ECMO team included: ECMO-trained surgeon and intensivist, specialist nurse, and perfusionist. Patients were cannulated for venous-arterial (V-A) or venous-venous (V-V) ECMO, depending on clinical indication.

Failure to oxygenate during cardiopulmonary bypass; treatment options and intervention algorithm
Membrane oxygenator failure remains a concern for perfusion teams. Successful outcomes for this low-frequency, high-risk intervention are predicated on having written institutional protocols for both the oxygenator change-out procedure as well as how ...
