cAMP-induced changes of apical membrane potentials of confluent H441 monolayers.
American Journal of Physiology - Lung cellular and Molecular Physiology, 2003We recorded apical membrane potentials (Va) of H441 cells [a human lung cell line exhibiting both epithelial Na+ (ENaC) and CFTR-type channels] grown as confluent monolayers, using the microelectrode technique in current-clamp mode before, during, and ...

Membrane potential in charged porous membranes
Journal of Membrane Science, 1999Abstract For charged porous membranes, the separation efficiency to charged particles and ions is affected by the electrical properties of the membrane surface. Such properties are most commonly quantified in terms of zeta-potential. In this paper, it is shown that the zeta-potential can be calculated numerically from the membrane potential.

Assessment of membrane potentials of mitochondrial populations in living cells.
Analytical Biochemistry, 2001Mitochondrial membrane potentials (MMP) reflect the functional status of mitochondria within cells. Fluorescent probes to estimate these potentials within cells have been available for some time, but measurements of populations of mitochondria are not ...

Membrane potentials of charged cellulosic membranes
Journal of Membrane Science, 1984We have determined potentials of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and carboxyethyl cellulose (CEC) membranes with various degrees of substitution in solutions of LiCl, NaCl, KCl and CsCl at 25°C. The ionic mobility ratio, D+/D-, in these membranes showed the same dependence on the Stokes radius of the cation as that in the bulk aqueous solution. D+/D- and

[66] Membrane potential and reconstitution
1979Publisher Summary The enzymological approach to the study of membranous proteins whose function is to generate membrane potential requires that the three problems to be solved: (1) isolation of the membrane-potential-generating protein, (2) incorporation of the isolated components into artificial phospholipid membrane, and (3) measurement of the ...

DC Potentials of the Membranous Labyrinth
American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1958The endolymphatic DC potentials were measured in the utricle, saccule and cochlear duct of the membranous labyrinth of the guinea pig and compared with potassium analyses of the endolymph. The average utricular potential was found to be +4 mv, the saccular potential +1 mv, and the cochlear potential +65 mv.

Alteration of Membrane Potential
2003We began our investigation of cellular electrical properties, in the last chapter, with a look at the resting membrane potential, which is the ultimate power source for nervous system signaling. We will begin this chapter with a discussion of ways in which the membrane potential is altered so that signaling occurs over short distances (i.e., 10s or ...

Membrane potentials of thin nitrocellulose membranes
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1967AbstractThe membrane potentials of thin (300–1300 A.) nitrocellulose (Parlodion) membranes have been investigated. Measurements were made in a Lucite cell by use of calomel electrodes with 0.05N KCl and 0.1N KCl. Variables having an influence on membrane structure, such as solvent polarity, temperature, and thickness, have been studied in relation to ...
