Recent developments in acoustic emission for better performance of structural materials

open access: yesDevelopments in the Built Environment, 2023
Acoustic emission (AE) is casually used for characterization of materials and structures. The damage mechanisms emit elastic signals with distinguishable characteristics allowing their identification as has been verified in all types of cementitious ...

Assessment of water absorption characteristics for improved sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) varieties during hydration

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, Volume 2, Issue 2, Page 175-183, June 2023., 2023
The hydration kinetics of sesame seed varieties were assessed at temperatures of 35–55°C. The Peleg model can adequately fit for simulating the hydration of sesame seed varieties at various temperatures. The rate of water absorption for sesame seed was significantly influenced by the temperature range evaluated.

Free carnitine concentrations and biochemical parameters in medium‐chain acyl‐CoA dehydrogenase deficiency: Genotype–phenotype correlation

open access: yesClinical Genetics, Volume 103, Issue 6, Page 644-654, June 2023., 2023
Differences in secondary free carnitine (C0) deficiency and biochemical phenotypes related to genotype (ACADM) and age are reported. C0 deficiency occurred earlier and more frequently in c.985A>G homozygotes compared to other pathogenic genotypes. No patient carrying c.199C>T developed C0 deficiency.

Recommendations for diagnosing and managing individuals with glutaric aciduria type 1: Third revision

open access: yesJournal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, Volume 46, Issue 3, Page 482-519, May 2023., 2023
Abstract Glutaric aciduria type 1 is a rare inherited neurometabolic disorder of lysine metabolism caused by pathogenic gene variations in GCDH (cytogenic location: 19p13.13), resulting in deficiency of mitochondrial glutaryl‐CoA dehydrogenase (GCDH) and, consequently, accumulation of glutaric acid, 3‐hydroxyglutaric acid, glutaconic acid and ...

When Will the Unprecedented 2022 Summer Heat Waves in Yangtze River Basin Become Normal in a Warming Climate?

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 50, Issue 4, 28 February 2023., 2023
Abstract Yangtze River basin (YZB) experienced record‐breaking heat in the summer of 2022. Here, we focused on daytime‐nighttime compound heat waves, and used the magnitude index that considers both duration and intensity to investigate the risk of the 2022 extreme heat.

Sensor Size Effect on Rayleigh Wave Velocity on Cementitious Surfaces

open access: yesSensors, 2021
Concrete properties and damage conditions are widely evaluated by ultrasonics. When access is limited, the evaluation takes place from a single surface. In this case, the sensor size plays a crucial role due to the “aperture effect”. While this effect is
