Memory Consolidation in the Cerebellar Cortex [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
Several forms of learning, including classical conditioning of the eyeblink, depend upon the cerebellum. In examining mechanisms of eyeblink conditioning in rabbits, reversible inactivations of the control circuitry have begun to dissociate aspects of cerebellar cortical and nuclear function in memory consolidation.

The Roles of Cortical Slow Waves in Synaptic Plasticity and Memory Consolidation

open access: yesFrontiers in Neural Circuits, 2017
Sleep plays important roles in sensory and motor memory consolidation. Sleep oscillations, reflecting neural population activity, involve the reactivation of learning-related neurons and regulate synaptic strength and, thereby affect memory consolidation.

Consolidating Memories [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Psychology, 2015
Our own experiences, as well as the findings of many studies, suggest that emotionally arousing experiences can create lasting memories. This autobiographical article provides a brief summary of the author's research investigating neurobiological systems responsible for the influence of emotional arousal on the consolidation of lasting memories.

Synaptic Orb2A Bridges Memory Acquisition and Late Memory Consolidation in Drosophila

open access: yesCell Reports, 2015
To adapt to an ever-changing environment, animals consolidate some, but not all, learning experiences to long-term memory. In mammals, long-term memory consolidation often involves neural pathway reactivation hours after memory acquisition.

Impaired memory consolidation in children with obstructive sleep disordered breathing. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Memory consolidation is stabilized and even enhanced by sleep (and particularly by 12-15 Hz sleep spindles in NREM stage 2 sleep) in healthy children but it is unclear what happens to these processes when sleep is disturbed by obstructive sleep ...

Neuronal reactivation during post-learning sleep consolidates long-term memory in Drosophila

open access: yeseLife, 2019
Animals consolidate some, but not all, learning experiences into long-term memory. Across the animal kingdom, sleep has been found to have a beneficial effect on the consolidation of recently formed memories into long-term storage.

Rpd3/CoRest-mediated activity-dependent transcription regulates the flexibility in memory updating in Drosophila

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
The flexibility of memory updating may be determined in the initial memory consolidation process. Here, the authors show the proteomic changes of the transcriptional repressor complexes required for initial memory consolidation and influencing the ...

Schemas and Memory Consolidation

open access: yesScience, 2007
Memory encoding occurs rapidly, but the consolidation of memory in the neocortex has long been held to be a more gradual process. We now report, however, that systems consolidation can occur extremely quickly if an associative “schema” into which new information is incorporated has previously been created.

New learning while consolidating memory during sleep is actively blocked by a protein synthesis dependent process

open access: yeseLife, 2016
Brief experiences while a memory is consolidated may capture the consolidation, perhaps producing a maladaptive memory, or may interrupt the consolidation.

Dynamic alteration of intrinsic properties of the cerebellar Purkinje cell during the motor memory consolidation

open access: yesMolecular Brain, 2023
Intrinsic plasticity of the cerebellar Purkinje cell (PC) plays a critical role in motor memory consolidation. However, detailed changes in their intrinsic properties during memory consolidation are not well understood.
