Study of Memory Partitioning for Multiprogramming Systems with Virtual Memory

IBM Journal of Research and Development, 1975
In this paper, we investigate the effect that the shape of the lifetime function has on the optimal partition of the main memory of a computer among N programs, where the criterion of optimality is maximization of CPU utilization. We used a simple queuing model as a base for understanding this interrelationship.

A Developmental Study of Constructive Memory

The Journal of Psychology, 1976
Recognition for four types of sentences was assessed in 45 male and female kindergarteners, second, and fourth graders following story presentations, the recognition task consisting of true and false premise and inference sentences. The false recognition of the true inference type of sentence was thought to be indicative of active construction of ...

Study on Collective Memory in the Blogosphere

2009 International Conference on Computational Science and Engineering, 2009
With the change to Web2.0 Internet environmentand the popularization of blogs, people write various writings freely on the Internet such as daily events, movie reviews, news, etc. Here, we can find writings on personal experiences from the past or on past popular culture. This paper analyzed collective memory through the blogosphere.

A study of interleaved memory systems

Proceedings of the May 5-7, 1970, spring joint computer conference on - AFIPS '70 (Spring), 1970
There is frequently a severe mismatch between achievable processor and memory speeds in today's computer systems. For example, the CDC-7600 has a 27ns (nanosecond) processor cycle time and a 270ns memory cycle time; the IBM-360/91 has a 60ns processor cycle time and a 750 ns memory cycle time.

Imaging Studies of Memory and Attention

Neurosurgery Clinics of North America, 1997
Functional brain imaging studies of memory and attention with positron emission tomography and functional magnetic resonance imaging demonstrate involvement of specific regions of the normal human brain. Possible anatomical substrates for different types of memory have been identified.

Imaging studies of semantic memory

Current Opinion in Neurology, 2008
The neural basis of semantic memory has not only theoretical interest, but also implications for several neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and semantic dementia. The main focus of functional imaging studies is to disentangle the contribution of several interacting factors to the landscape of cerebral activation observed in normal ...

Facing the Language-Memory Problem in the Study of Autobiographical Memory

Integrative Psychological and Behavioral Science, 2018
This paper discusses the problem of the role of language in autobiographical memory, that is barely considered in studies on autobiographical memories and narratives. As a matter of fact, most of the current studies on autobiographical memory confounded memory and narrative together. The present paper focuses on two main issues. Firstly, it debates how

Using Olfaction to Study Memory

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1998
ABSTRACT: In a series of studies we have been exploring the role of hippocampal function in memory using the model system of olfactory‐hippocampal pathways and odor learning in rats. Our experiments show that hippocampus itself is not essential to memory for single odors, but is critical for forming the representations of relations among odor memories,
