Avaliação dos potenciais evocados cocleares após lesão do utrículo por eletrocauterização Assessing cochlear evoked potentials after electrocautery-induced trauma to the utricle

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2012
A utriculostomia é uma nova alternativa cirúrgica para a doença de Ménière. A hipótese cirúrgica desse procedimento é a de que o desfecho de uma lesão do utrículo por eletrocauterização não interfere na função coclear.

‘Such a lot of bother’: Qualitative results of a home trial of a wearable electronic vision enhancement system for people with age‐related macular degeneration

open access: yesOphthalmic and Physiological Optics, Volume 45, Issue 3, Page 699-712, May 2025.
Abstract Purpose Wearable electronic low vision enhancement systems (wEVES) improve visual function but are not widely adopted by people with vision impairment. Here, qualitative research methods were used to investigate the usefulness of wEVES for people with age‐related macular degeneration (AMD) after an extended home trial.

Common human diseases prediction using machine learning based on survey data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
In this era, the moment has arrived to move away from disease as the primary emphasis of medical treatment. Although impressive, the multiple techniques that have been developed to detect the diseases. In this time, there are some types of diseases COVID-19, normal flue, migraine, lung disease, heart disease, kidney disease, diabetics, stomach disease,

The Vestibulo‐Ocular Reflex is Associated With Visuospatial Dysfunction in Patients With Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2025.
Our findings suggest the vestibulo‐ocular reflex function may be associated with visuospatial perception and learning in Parkinson's disease. Abstract Background Visuospatial impairment is one of the most frequent cognitive deficits in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD).

Multiresolution Approximation of Polygonal Curves in Linear Complexity [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
We propose a new algorithm to the problem of polygonal curve approximation based on a multiresolution approach. This algorithm is suboptimal but still maintains some optimality between successive levels of resolution using dynamic programming. We show theoretically and experimentally that this algorithm has a linear complexity in time and space.

Rheoencephalography in Meniere's disease [PDF]

open access: yes
Rheoencephalography (REG) was used on 35 patients with Meniere's disease to determine tonus and perfusion of cerebral vessels. The analysis took account of age, duration of the disease and presence or absence of cervical osteochondrosis.

The Association of Sarcopenia and Body Composition With Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo in Older Adults

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 135, Issue 4, Page 1486-1492, April 2025.
Dizziness and vertigo are widespread conditions in geriatrics and otorhinolaryngology practice. Benign positional paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common causes of dizziness. Examining the relationship between BPPV and geriatric syndromes is critical to protecting this population, which has a high‐risk factor for falls and potential ...

The role of mutation rate variation and genetic diversity in the architecture of human disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We have investigated the role that the mutation rate and the structure of genetic variation at a locus play in determining whether a gene is involved in disease. We predict that the mutation rate and its genetic diversity should be higher in genes associated with disease, unless all genes that could cause disease have already been identified ...
