Systemic treatment approaches are urgently needed for a subset of meningioma patients who do not achieve local tumor control with surgery and radiotherapy. Classical chemotherapy or anti-angiogenic agents exert only very limited activity in these tumors.

This article reviews the surgical management of meningiomas. Variations in surgical techniques for meningiomas in specific areas are presented. The author also reviews the role of adjunctive radiation therapy, especially in the treatment of recurrent tumors.

Meningiomas more often behave as benign tumors although their very rate of recurrence is unknown. These neoplasms have been exhaustively studied but neither their subtypes nor their histologic features were ever considered as reliable data of their biologic behavior.

The question of whether meningeal hemangiopericytoma is a variant of meningioma ("angioblastic meningioma") or a nosologically distinct entity remains controversial. We present the case histories of an intracranial meningioma and of a meningeal hemangiopericytoma, both of which developed extracranial metastases.

Current Treatment Options in Neurology, 2010
Meningiomas are extra-axial dural-based tumors. They are the most common intracranial tumors, occur in mid to late life, and have a female predilection. Symptoms are a function of location. Meningiomas are usually benign, but atypical and malignant forms exist. Treatment is indicated for symptomatic lesions or when neurologic symptoms may shortly occur.

Neurosurgery, 1986
Abstract A very unusual case of metastatic spread of a meningioma is described. The clinical presentation was of extradural spinal cord compression, without evidence of a primary tumor. Computed tomography did not reveal any intracranial meningioma; the histopathology of the extradural spinal tumor was identical with that of two ...

Abstract This report concerns three patients with intracranial meningioma developing at the site of an old head injury with skull fracture. These cases, along with literature reports, suggest a causal relationship between head trauma and the subsequent development of meningioma.

Neoangiogenesis has been correlated to biological aggressiveness and an adverse clinical course of several neoplasias. Its prognostic role in meningiomas appears to be controversial. Nonetheless, if adequately quantified with specific markers and appropriate scoring methods, angiogenesis seems to be significantly associated with a high growth fraction,

Chordoid meningioma: Rare variant of meningioma
Neuropathology, 2004Chordoid meningioma is a rare variant of meningioma that bears a striking histological resemblance to chordoma and has greater likelihood of recurrence. Although most meningiomas occur in the intracranial, orbital and intravertebral cavities, rare meningiomas have been reported in extracranial organs; thus, it is important to be able to distinguish ...
