Vaccination strategies and transmission of COVID-19: evidence across advanced countries [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Given limited supply of approved vaccines and constrained medical resources, design of a vaccination strategy to control a pandemic is an economic problem. We use time-series and panel methods with real-world country-level data to estimate effects on COVID-19 cases and deaths of two key elements of mass vaccination - time between doses and vaccine type.

Meningococcal vaccine antigen diversity in global databases.

open access: yesEuro surveillance : bulletin Europeen sur les maladies transmissibles = European communicable disease bulletin, 2015
The lack of an anti-capsular vaccine against serogroup B meningococcal disease has necessitated the exploration of alternative vaccine candidates, mostly proteins exhibiting varying degrees of antigenic variation. Analysis of variants of antigen-encoding

Toll‐like receptor expression during inflammatory processes in human diseases

open access: yesRheumatology &Autoimmunity, Volume 5, Issue 1, Page 1-14, March 2025.
Chronic inflammation in different illnesses triggered by pathogen‐associated molecular patterns and damage associated molecular patterns recognized by Toll‐like receptors (TLRs). Abstract Multi‐cellular organisms, including humans, have evolved immune systems as defense mechanisms against pathogens. The immune system employs the Toll‐like receptor (TLR)

An OMV Vaccine Derived from a Capsular Group B Meningococcus with Constitutive FetA Expression: Preclinical Evaluation of Immunogenicity and Toxicity. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Following the introduction of effective protein-polysaccharide conjugate vaccines against capsular group C meningococcal disease in Europe, meningococci of capsular group B remain a major cause of death and can result in debilitating sequelae.

A Multilingual Dataset of COVID-19 Vaccination Attitudes on Twitter [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Vaccine hesitancy is considered as one main cause of the stagnant uptake ratio of COVID-19 vaccines in Europe and the US where vaccines are sufficiently supplied. Fast and accurate grasp of public attitudes toward vaccination is critical to address vaccine hesitancy, and social media platforms have proved to be an effective source of public opinions ...

The role of the gut microbiota in regulating responses to vaccination: current knowledge and future directions

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 292, Issue 6, Page 1480-1499, March 2025.
Vaccination plays a crucial role in mediating protection against infectious diseases, but immune responses to vaccination are highly variable and frequently sub‐optimal in vulnerable populations. Here, we review the latest preclinical and clinical evidence demonstrating that the gut microbiota plays a significant role in regulating immune responses to ...

Prediction by genetic MATS of 4CMenB vaccine strain coverage of invasive meningococcal serogroup B isolates circulating in Taiwan between 2003 and 2020

open access: yesmSphere
Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B (NmB) strains have diverse antigens, necessitating methods for predicting meningococcal serogroup B (MenB) vaccine strain coverage. The genetic Meningococcal Antigen Typing System (gMATS), a correlate of MATS estimates,

Safety and Immunogenicity of a Tetravalent Polysaccharide Vaccine Against Meningococcal Disease

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2009
Meningococcal disease, including meningitis and sepsis, usually follows an invasive infection by Neisseria meningitidis, and is a major cause of death and morbidity worldwide.

Dynamic Vaccination Game in a Heterogeneous Mixing Population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Opposition to vaccination has long been a non-negligible public health phenomenon resulted from people's varied perceptions toward vaccination (e.g., vaccine-phobia). This paper investigates the voluntary vaccination behavior of a heterogeneous population during an epidemic outbreak, where each individual makes its own vaccination decision to minimize ...

First Use of a Serogroup B Meningococcal Vaccine in the US in Response to a University Outbreak

open access: yesPediatrics, 2015
BACKGROUND: In 2013–2014, an outbreak of serogroup B meningococcal disease occurred among persons linked to a New Jersey university (University A). In the absence of a licensed serogroup B meningococcal (MenB) vaccine in the United States, the Food and ...
