Neisseria meningitidis is responsible for two major diseases: cerebrospinal meningitis and/or septicemia. The latter can lead to a purpura fulminans, an often-fatal condition owing to the associated septic shock. These two clinical aspects of the meningococcal infection are consequences of a tight interaction of meningococci with host endothelial cells.

Central nervous system Aspergillus quadrilineatus infection in a COVID‐19 patient, a case report and literature review

The first COVID‐19‐associated cerebral aspergillosis was due to Aspergillus quadrilineatus in a pediatric patient with acute lymphocytic leukemia. A combination of intravenous liposomal amphotericin B and caspofungin therapy for 8 days, did not improve the patient's condition. The patient gradually continued to deteriorate and expired.
