Fetoscopic Repair of Meningomyelocele
Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2015Currently, maternal-fetal surgery for repair of myelomeningocele requires an upper-segment hysterotomy, which likely increases maternal postsurgical risks. If fetoscopic repair of myelomeningocele achieves similar or better fetal outcomes while decreasing maternal risks, it would be a better option.A patient with a fetus with a L3-S1 meningomyelocele ...

Twenty-five of 111 children (24 of 98 children with shunts) had seizures. Age at onset and type of seizure varied. Brain malformation (other than Arnold-Chiari), shunt infection, and perhaps number of shunt revisions were important risk factors in ...

A full-term newborn boy was born with 2 meningomyelocele defects. The first one was a 2.5 x 2 cm defect located in the upper dorsal area and the other defect was a 12 x 10 cm defect in the lower dorsal-lumbosacral area. Neurological examination of the lower extremities showed paraplegia with hypotonia.

Squamous cell carcinoma and meningomyelocele
Neurosurgery, 1984Abstract A case of invasive squamous cell carcinoma arising in the skin overlying a large lumbar meningomyelocele is reported. This case is unique in that a chronic neurocutaneous fistula was not present. It is proposed that chronic irritation of the meningomyelocele was the primary factor in the pathogenesis of the cancer.
