The mandibular incisive foramen, a false mental foramen
Morphologie, 2020The mandibular incisive foramen (MIF) is an opening on the external surface of the dentate mandibular body, medial to, and facing the mental foramen (MF). There is actually scarce evidence of such MIF.A retrospective Cone Beam CT (CBCT) study of the archived files of a 56 y.o. male patient was documented anatomically for dental medical purposes. In the

Mental Foramen and Mental Nerve: Changes with Age
Cells Tissues Organs, 1986In a study of 525 dry mandibles and dissections in 50 cadavers, the mental foramen (MF) was found: single in 94.67% of the cases and multiple in 5.33%. Its shape was round in 34.48% with an average diameter of 1.68 mm and oval in 65.52% with an average long diameter of 2.37 mm. In 43.66% the MF was located in front of the apex of the root of the second

Accessory Mental Foramen and Maxillofacial Surgery
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2018Abstract Accessory mental foramens should be considered in surgical procedures performed in mandibular body and symphysis. Location and content of these foramina has significant impact on the result of surgery. Lip numbness is the catastrophic result if these foramina are violated while their content is nerves that ...

Mental Foramen Relation to Mandibular Fracture
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2016To detect site of the mental nerve foramen in patients of mandibular fracture and study its relation to mandibular fracture site using radiology and operative findings during open reduction and internal fixation. This study was carried out on 46 patients who had traumatic mandibular fractures.

Roentgenologic study of the mental foramen
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1976Locating the mental foramen in periapical radiographs is of great clinical importance. One thousand full-mouth intraoral radiographs were examined, and the location of the mental foramen in both the horizontal and the vertical planes was registered.

Mental foramen and apical foramen: A dangerous anatomical proximity
Australian Endodontic JournalAbstractThe study evaluated the spatial position of the mental foramen (MF) using 300 cone‐beam computed tomography. The spatial position was analyzed with the horizontal location and relative location (distance between apical foramen and MF). The horizontal location was assessed through three positions (positions 1, 2, and 3).

Prenatal morphogenesis of the human mental foramen
European Journal of Oral Sciences, 2002The mental foramen, at first glance, merely looks like a hole where the mental nerve and the vascular bundle runs through. From a morphogenetic point of view, however, the mental foramen is a suitable model to study the development of a structure where different components are involved.

Avoiding the mental foramen during periapical surgery
Journal of Endodontics, 1995Many endodontists avoid surgical procedures in proximity to the mental foramen. Although a healthy respect for regional anatomy is important, this should not be at the expense of failing to offer the most appropriate endodontic care. When correct preoperative diagnostic and surgical techniques are used, serious negative sequelae are rarely encountered.
