Metric Aspects of Mental Images

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1996
This research concerns the representation of size and shape in long-term memory at different levels of abstraction. Some authors suggested a distinction between surface characteristics, including size, depending on an observer's point of view (viewer-centered), and abstract characteristic based only on an object's shape (object-centered). These studies

Mental images and the Brain

Cognitive Neuropsychology, 2005
One theory of visual mental imagery posits that early visual cortex is also used to support representations during imagery. This claim is important because it bears on the "imagery debate": Early visual cortex supports depictive representations during perception, not descriptive ones.

[Mental images and mental models].

Zeitschrift fur Psychologie mit Zeitschrift fur angewandte Psychologie, 1996
Two experiments are conducted to assess the involvement of the visouspatial sketchpad of working memeory in propositional and spatial reasoning, using a dual-task methodology. While a concurrent tracking task was found to interfere with spatial reasoning, no such interference was found with propositional reasoning.

The Mental Image

1991
So far I have outlined Piaget’s semiotic theory of mental development and have compared his terminology with that of Peirce. Now we are embarking on the second leg of the journey, where a more detailed account of Piaget’s special developmental theory of imagination will be provided.

Imaging of Altered Mental Status

Radiologic Clinics of North America, 2020
Neuroimaging is an invaluable diagnostic tool for sorting through the vast array of etiologies that underlie altered mental status (AMS). Head computed tomography (CT) without contrast is the primary modality for evaluation of AMS and should be complemented by MR imaging in cases of negative CT but high clinical concern.

Visual memories and mental images

International Journal of Man-Machine Studies, 1985
A model is presented for the architecture of the neural networks which encode visual information for storage and which reconstruct iconic representations from storage representations. (Iconic representations are geometrically similar to projections of the objects they represent.) Each storage representation consists of a sequence of patterns derived ...

Random Images on Mental Images

1995
Starting with some examples of images and computations in d dimensions involving hyper-cubes, I show how Euler’s formula and Fermat’s Little Theorem can be ‘read’ from symbols derived from images. I then consider features of mental images and the role of mental visual experiences and experiments, ending with some questions.
