A Cross-Sectional Survey on Knowledge and Perceptions of Health Risks Associated with Arsenic and Mercury Contamination from Artisanal Gold mining in Tanzania. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
An estimated 0.5 to 1.5 million informal miners, of whom 30-50% are women, rely on artisanal mining for their livelihood in Tanzania. Mercury, used in the processing gold ore, and arsenic, which is a constituent of some ores, are common occupational ...

Biomimetic Design of Biocompatible Neural Probes for Deep Brain Signal Monitoring and Stimulation: Super Static Interface for Immune Response‐Enhanced Contact

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrathin, flexible neural probes are developed with an innovative, biomimetic design incorporating brain tissue‐compatible materials. The material system employs biomolecule‐based encapsulation agents to mitigate inflammatory responses, as demonstrated through comprehensive in vitro and in vivo studies.

Enhanced Performance and Durability of Zinc–Air Batteries Utilizing W‐Doped Cobalt Pentlandite Catalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A W‐doped cobalt pentlandite electrocatalyst with sulfur vacancies is synthesized, guided by DFT calculations, which modifies the d‐band center, promoting oxygen intermediate desorption and lowering the *O generation energy barrier, thus enhancing catalytic activity.

How relevant is the deposition of mercury onto snowpacks? – Part 1: A statistical study on the impact of environmental factors [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2012
A portion of the highly toxic methylmercury that bioaccumulates in aquatic life is created from mercury entering bodies of water with snowpack meltwater.

Mercury's Protoplanetary Mass [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2004
Major element fractionation among chondrites has been discussed for decades as ratios relative to Si or Mg. Recently, by expressing ratios relative to Fe, I discovered a new relationship admitting the possibility that ordinary chondrite meteorites are derived from two components, a relatively oxidized and undifferentiated, primitive component and a ...

Mercury and thermometers.

open access: yesSouth African medical journal = Suid-Afrikaanse tydskrif vir geneeskunde, 2005
Many colleagues who have worked in casualty departments or emergency rooms will have encountered anxious parents bearing fragments of glass thermometers that do not include the mercury-containing bulb, and whose children are presumably suffering from indigestion or worse. Many of those colleagues will have found the parental anxiety infectious. Mercury

Effects of Chemical Pressure on Superconductivity in Electrochemically Intercalated (TMA)yFe2(Se1−xSx)2 (TMA = Tetramethylammonium)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intercalation of a series of FeSe1−xSx host crystals with tetramethylammonium cations (TMA+) linearly scales the critical temperature Tc from 43 K down to 28 K with increasing sulfur incorporation. The chemical pressure induced by the partial substitution shows a weakening of the superconducting properties in both hosts and intercalates in a remarkably
