Marker‐trait association mapping for perpetual flowering habit in an octoploid ancestral strawberry, Fragaria virginiana

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 18, Issue 3, September 2025.
Abstract Cultivated strawberry Fragaria × ananassa (Duch.) is an economically important small fruit. Flowering habit is a key trait of interest in cultivar development and agricultural production. Two cultivar types are distinguished: seasonal flowering (SF) varieties, which require a sufficiently short day length to initiate flowering; and perpetual ...

A Goniometric System for Photometric and Polarization Measurements of Planetary Regolith Analogs

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 12, Issue 9, September 2025.
Abstract The Planetary Surface Texture Laboratory at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory is a facility for the study of the photometric and polarization behavior of regolith analogs using an ∼1.5‐m‐radius arc goniometer system. This system characterizes the photometric and polarization response of granular materials (planetary ...

Long‐Term Impact of the Largest Environmental Disaster in Latin America (Fundão Dam Failure) on Microbial Communities in Lakes of the Doce River Basin, Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesEnviron Microbiol
The collapse of the Fundão dam caused long‐term alterations in the microbiome of lakes in the Doce River basin, with microbial communities closely associated with heavy metals originating from the mining tailings. The findings also highlight potential microbial groups for biomonitoring and bioremediation efforts.

The “Analogs for VENus' GEologically Recent Surfaces” (AVENGERS) Initiative: Using Terrestrial Analogs to Study Recent Volcano‐Tectonic Activity on Venus and Inform the Characterization of Terrestrial Exoplanets

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 130, Issue 9, September 2025.
Abstract Several missions to Venus have recently been selected for launch, opening a new era for the exploration of the planet. A key question these missions seek to address is whether Venus is geologically active today. Detecting active volcanism on Venus would contribute to a better understanding of volcanic and atmospheric processes on Earth.
