A new species of Meriania of the Brachycera group (Melastomataceae: Merianieae) with dimorphic stamens

Meriania juan-canoi, a new species endemic to the northern Andes in Colombia is described and illustrated. This new species belongs to the Brachycera group and can be distinguished from the other species by its apically rounded calyptra, completely free ovary and dimorphic stamens.
