A Relationship Between Sulphur Content of Wool and Wool Production by Merino Sheep [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Biological Sciences, 1967
The sulphur content of wool from 66 Peppin Merino wethers maintained together at pasture was measured in midside staples representing 49 weeks growth. The distribution of sulphur values was normal with a mean of 3·43 % and a range of 3·08-3·92 %. The sulphur content of the wool was inversely related to wool production among these sheep.

The influence of zinc-methionine bioplex supplementation to pregnant and lactating sheep on selected wool parameters [PDF]

open access: yesArchives Animal Breeding, 2019
The most important nutrients affecting wool production include sulfur amino acids, such as methionine, and minerals, such as zinc, and their deficiency may cause wool production decrease.

Pre- and post-partum variation in wool cortisol and wool micron in Australian Merino ewe sheep (Ovis aries) [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2021
An individual merino sheep’s output of wool production is influenced by synergistic interactions of sheep genetics, climate, farm management, and nutrition available to the whole flock. The price paid to the producer for this wool commodity is determined

Putative Genomic Signatures of Local Adaptation in Five Local Indonesian Sheep Reveal Selection on Immunity, Reproduction, and Production Traits. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
We determined the genetic structure and signatures of selection in five local Indonesian sheep breeds using genome‐wide SNP data. By integrating population structure analyses with runs of homozygosity and haplotype‐based selection scans, we identified breed‐specific genomic regions associated with immunity, reproduction, pigmentation, metabolism, and ...

Effect of Diet Neutral Detergent Fibre Content on Dry Matter Intake, Nutrient Digestibility, Growth Efficiency and Carcass Characteristics of Finishing South African Mutton Merino Wether Lambs. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Med Sci
Feeding South African Mutton Merino lambs low‐NDF lucerne hay diets improved nutrient digestibility, energy utilisation, growth efficiency, and carcass quality. Despite lower intake at the lowest NDF level, fibre digestibility and feed conversion improved, indicating that highly digestible, low‐NDF finishing diets enhance lamb growth and carcass traits.

Objective Evaluation of Luster (Gloss 60 degrees) of Different Indian Wools

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers, 2022
Luster for a fiber/fabric system is a phenomenon to the reflectance of incident light to the surface, addressed as its shine or gloss. Presently, objective evaluation of the shine for straight hair (human hair) can be quantified through Goniophotometer ...
