Merocyanine–spiropyran relaxation processes
The European Physical Journal D, 2018In the paper mechanisms of merocyanine–spiropyran transformation were investigated. It was shown that in dark conditions for such transformation it is necessary to overcome the potential barrier with height of ~0.6 eV. A barrierless transformation into the spiropyran molecule is possible due to the rotation of the phenyl moiety of the merocyanine ...

Highly Fluorescent Merocyanine and Cyanine PMMA Copolymers
Macromolecular Rapid Communications, 2018AbstractPolymerizable merocyanine and cyanine dye monomers are synthesized and applied in a statistical copolymerization with methylmethacrylate, giving a series of highly fluorescent poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) copolymers. Photophysical properties of yellow to red merocyanine‐ and of pink to dark purple cyanine‐containing copolymers are studied ...

Basic-to-acidic reversible pH switching with a merocyanine photoacid.
Chemical Communications, 2022The application of merocyanine photoacids has previously been largely limited to neutral and acidic pH values. Here we introduce a new merocyanine photoacid with superior pH switching qualities.

ANTIVIRAL ACTIVITY OF MEROCYANINE 540
Photochemistry and Photobiology, 1987Abstract Simultaneous exposure to the lipophilic dye merocyanine 540 (MC 540) and white light inactivates several enveloped viruses. The same treatment appears to have little or no effect on pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells, mature red cells, and mature leukocytes. At least some components of the clotting system are spared, too. The molecular basis

Merocyanine interaction with phosphatidylcholine bilayers
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1993Merocyanine (MC 540) is a fluorescent probe whose optical properties depend on the environmental polarity. In the presence of lipid bilayers, MC 540 binds to the membrane surface while simultaneously changing its fluorescence properties. Previous studies have shown that the fluorescence of merocyanine depends upon the lipid packing in the membrane.
