Hidden lineages in the African Sky Islands: A taxonomic reevaluation of Afrocarduus (Compositae)

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, EarlyView.
Species delimitation is crucial for biodiversity studies. Using Hyb‐Seq and phylogenomics, we reassessed Afrocarduus, endemic to Afromontane and Afroalpine regions, uncovering 16 evolutionary lineages (2.3 Mya). Morphological data support their distinctiveness, with acaulescence evolving independently twice. The traditionally broad A.

Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification Test for Trypanosoma gambiense Group 1 with Stem Primers: A Molecular Xenomonitoring Test for Sleeping Sickness

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Medicine, 2017
The World Health Organization has targeted Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) for elimination by 2020 with zero incidence by 2030. To achieve and sustain this goal, accurate and easy-to-deploy diagnostic tests for Gambian trypanosomiasis which accounts ...

Becoming Dostoevsky (how Rowan Williams opens up Bakhtin)

open access: yesModern Theology, EarlyView.

Analytic Investigation of the Imprints of Dark Energy and Charge on the Kerr–Newmann–De Sitter Black-Hole Photon Ring

open access: yesAstronomy
In 2019, the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) released the first image of a black hole, sparking huge interest in the study of black-hole images. We present analytical solutions to the null geodesic equations for Kerr–Newman–de Sitter black holes derived ...

Preimaginal development of Aedes aegypti L. (Diptera: Culicidae) in brackish water gives rise to adult mosquitoes with thicker cuticles and greater insecticide resistance

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
The principal arboviral vector Aedes aegypti can develop in coastal brackish water field habitats (0.5–15 g/L salt) with larvae possessing thicker cuticles and greater resistance to the larvicide Temephos. Females emerging from brackish water‐developing preimaginal stages are now shown to have thicker and remodelled leg and abdominal cuticles and ...

A multiplex assay to detect mosquito species, bloodmeal host source and Plasmodium in malaria vectors using Nanopore amplicon sequencing

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Insectary‐reared mosquitoes were simultaneously assessed for species identification, bloodmeal source analysis and Plasmodium detection, using a single multiplexed sequencing run on the MinION sequencing platform. The method was applied to 150 insectary‐reared mosquitoes, representing nine species blood‐fed with five vertebrate hosts and 40 samples for

Fugitive Junctures: Life‐Seeking, Route‐Finding and the Mobile Ensemble at Kenya's Borders

open access: yesTransactions of the Institute of British Geographers, EarlyView.
Short Abstract Fugitivity has become an important conceptual frame to understand the illegalised mobilities of contemporary migrants in conjunction with enslaved people's historical lines of flight as spatial praxes to seize their own freedom. Thinking from Kenya, and drawing on research with migrants, border officials, activists, police and smugglers,

Comparative analysis of morphology, growth performance and gonadal development between the hybrid crab (Scylla serrata ♀ × S. paramamosian ♂) and S. serrata

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Interspecific hybridization, through integrating genetic resources across distinct species, serves as a pivotal strategy for improving yield, stress resistance, and quality in aquacultural species. To evaluate the performance of hybrid crab (Scylla serrata ♀ × S.
