La Mesa Central es una provincia fi siogra fi ca caracterizada por ser una region elevada que internamente puede subdivi- dirse en dos regiones. La region sur tiene cotas que se encuentran por encima de los 2 000 msnm, con excepcion del valle de Aguascalientes, es una zona montanosa cubierta en su mayor parte por rocas volcanicas cenozoicas.
