Learning Curve Effect in Reducing Local Recurrence Rate After Resection of Pancreatic Cancer With Arterial Abutment: A Single‐Center Retrospective Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pancreatectomy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) with arterial abutment is a complex, high‐risk surgery. We aimed to investigate the clinicopathological features, risk factors, and learning curve for local recurrence after pancreatectomy for PDAC with arterial abutment.

Metastatic Status and Dissection Effect of Regional/Extraregional Lymph Nodes in Japanese Patients with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Anal Canal: A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of the Anus, Rectum and Colon
Objectives: Squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal (SCCA) is a rare condition. Standard treatment includes chemoradiotherapy, with surgical treatment reserved for limited cases. In the future, the decrease in surgical frequency makes it more difficult

Revising Fascial Anatomy With a Focus on the Fusion Fascia in Mesenteric Gastrointestinal Cancer Surgery

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This review critically reassesses our prior hypothesis and proposes a revised anatomical model of the fusion fascia that is broadly applicable to GI cancer surgeries grounded in the principles of mesenteric resection. Our synthesis suggests that the fusion fascia is neither a dense connective tissue membrane nor a remnant of mesothelial fusion, but ...

MESENTERIC LYMPH NODES IN SIMULATED RECTAL CANCER UNDER CONDITIONS OF CHEMOTHERAPY

open access: yesСибирский онкологический журнал, 2016
The purpose of the study was to find out the typical morpho-functional changes in mesenteric lymph nodes of Wistar rats after modeling of rectal cancer and intraperitoneally injected cytostatic therapy with 5-fluorouracil and leucovorin.

Aging of the Mesenteric Lymph Pump

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2010
All functions of lymphatic system require the effective lymph flow, which cannot exist without effective contractions of muscle cells of lymphatic vessels (LV). However, the mechanisms regulating the lymphatic pumping, including its age‐related alterations, remain greatly under investigated.

Functional Advantage of Central Pancreatectomy Over Distal Pancreatectomy for Benign or Low‐Grade Malignant Tumors: A Comparative Analysis Based on 75‐g Oral Glucose Tolerance Test

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Central pancreatectomy (CP) better preserves postoperative pancreatic endocrine function than distal pancreatectomy for benign or low‐grade malignant tumors. The 75‐g oral glucose tolerance test demonstrated that CP maintained insulin secretion and glucose tolerance, highlighting its clinical advantage as a function‐preserving procedure.

Role of the afferent lymph as an immunological conduit to analyze tissue antigenic and inflammatory load

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: The lymphatic fluid is the conduit by which part of the tissue “omics” is transported to the draining lymph node for immunosurveillance. Following cannulation of the pre-nodal cervical and mesenteric afferent lymphatics, herein we investigate ...

Immunopathological properties of the Campylobacter jejuni flagellins and the adhesin CadF as assessed in a clinical murine infection model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Campylobacter jejuni infections constitute serious threats to human health with increasing prevalences worldwide. Our knowledge regarding the molecular mechanisms underlying host-pathogen interactions is still limited.

Impact of Body Weight Loss During Preoperative Chemoradiotherapy on Prognosis of Patients With Lower Rectal Cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between changes in body weight and composition during chemoradiotherapy, such as the psoas muscle mass index, visceral fat index, and subcutaneous fat index obtained from computed tomography images, and long‐term outcomes in rectal cancer patients.

Reduced early life mucosal integrity decreases thymic cell counts and increases local, but not thymic regulatory, T cell recruitment: Gut mucosal integrity breach and thymic T cells

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inflammation, 2019
Early life immune gut microbiota contact is critical for regulatory T cell–mediated oral tolerance induction. We induced a mucosal integrity breach with low dextran sulfate sodium dose right after weaning in BALB/c mice along with a standard high dose to
