Material aware mesh deformations

ACM SIGGRAPH 2005 Posters on - SIGGRAPH '05, 2005
Most real world objects consist of non-uniform materials; as a result, during deformation the bending and shearing are distributed non-uniformly and depend on the local stiffness of the material. In the virtual environment there are three prevalent approaches to model deformation: purely geometric, physically driven, and skeleton based.

Mesh‐free deformations

Computer Animation and Virtual Worlds, 2004
AbstractExisting physically based deformation techniques, such as the finite element method (FEM) and the mass‐spring systems (MSS), require the deformed object to be properly meshed. This is arguably the most expensive manual intervention process. In this paper, we propose a mesh‐free deformation technique where only unconnected points are involved ...

Spectral mesh deformation

The Visual Computer, 2008
In this paper, we present a novel spectral method for mesh deformation based on manifold harmonics transform. The eigenfunctions of the Laplace–Beltrami operator give orthogonal bases for parameterizing the space of functions defined on the surfaces.

Instant mesh deformation

Proceedings of the 2008 symposium on Interactive 3D graphics and games, 2008
We present an interactive mesh deformation technique based on parametric curve manipulation. A set of lines sketched over the projection of the mesh model is used to create parametric curves, which can be interactively manipulated, thus deforming the associated surfaces. Such curves can be further combined to create skeletons in a simple way, providing

Deformation Transfer for Triangle Meshes

ACM Transactions on Graphics, 2004
Deformation transfer applies the deformation exhibited by a source triangle mesh onto a different target triangle mesh. Our approach is general and does not require the source and target to share the same number of vertices or triangles, or to have identical connectivity.

Efficient mesh deformation using tetrahedron control mesh

Computer Aided Geometric Design, 2008
It is a challenging problem to interactively deform densely sampled complex objects. This paper proposed an easy but efficient approach to it by using coarse control meshes to embed the target objects. The control mesh can be efficiently deformed by various existing methods, and then the target object can be accordingly deformed by interpolation.

Sketching mesh deformations

ACM SIGGRAPH 2007 courses, 2005
Techniques for interactive deformation of unstructured polygon meshes are of fundamental importance to a host of applications. Most traditional approaches to this problem have emphasized precise control over the deformation being made. However, they are often cumbersome and unintuitive for non-expert users. In this paper, we present an interactive ...

Mutiresolution Freeform Mesh Deformation

2012 International Conference on Computer Science and Electronics Engineering, 2012
The main drawback of free-form deformation method is not able to preserve the features of shape. To address it, an efficient shape deformation algorithm is proposed based on least-square mesh. By using the global Laplacian smoothing with positional constraints, the least square mesh (LSM) including only low-frequency component of a shape is first ...

Fast Mesh-Free Deformations

Ninth International Conference on Computer Aided Design and Computer Graphics (CAD-CG'05), 2006
Mesh-free deformation is an effective method for the simulation of deformable objects and characters in computer animation. It bears the merits of flexible control, good accuracy and easy implementation. Similar to other physically-based deformation techniques, however, computational cost remains a pressing issue, especially for large scale problems ...
