Untangling polygonal and polyhedral meshes via mesh optimization
Engineering with Computers, 2014We propose simple and efficient optimization-based untangling strategies for 2D polygonal and 3D polyhedral meshes. The first approach uses a size-based mesh metric, which eliminates inverted elements by averaging element size over the entire mesh.

Optimization of Tetrahedral Meshes
1995Finite element computations are all the more exact if we start from “good” elements. We are interested in meshes where the elements are tetrahedra and we shall develop utilities allowing us to improve the quality of these meshes.

Integr. Comput. Aided Eng., 2020
Large-scale 3D models consume large computing and storage resources. To address this challenging problem, this paper proposes a new method to obtain the optimal simplified 3D mesh models with the minimum approximation error.

Optimal particle-mesh algorithms
Journal of Computational Physics, 1975Abstract Optimal particle-mesh algorithms are regarded as those which, for a given computational cost, best represent the physics relevant to the evolution of a computer experiment. A method to determine for arbitrary interparticle force laws a best combination of charge assignment and potential solvers in both momentum and energy conserving schemes ...

Optimizing Discontinuity Meshing Radiosity
1995Discontinuity meshing radiosity is no longer new to the Computer Graphics community. When trying to closely model, with patches, the true radiance function over some surface, it is now well established that errors are inevitable if patch boundaries take no account of discontinuities in the true radiance function [16, 13, 5].

On smooth or 0/1 designs of the fixed-mesh element-based topology optimization
Advances in Engineering Software, 2020The traditional element-based topology optimization based on material penalization typically aims at a 0/1 design. Our numerical experiments reveal that the compliance of a smooth design is overestimated when material properties of boundary intermediate ...

OPTIMIZATION STRATEGIES IN UNSTRUCTURED MESH GENERATION
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1996Summary: We propose a new optimization strategy for unstructured meshes that, when coupled with existing automatic generators, produces meshes of high quality for arbitrary domains in three dimensions. Our optimizer is based upon a non-differentiable definition of the quality of the mesh which is natural for finite element or finite volume users: the ...

The optimization package OPTIM3D has been extensively tested within an industrial environment. Conclusions concerning single-block and multi-blocks optimization are given. The tuning of the parameters is synthetically explained. Operationnal procedures for improving the efficiency of the program are proposed.
