Mesh evaluation method for shell elements using graph convolutional network

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2023
Finite element mesh quality, which affects analysis accuracy and computational cost, is usually determined based on the designer's experience. In this study, we propose a GCN (Graph Convolutional network)-based method for evaluating the quality of ...

Building Geometry Simplification for Improving Mesh Quality of Numerical Analysis Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Numerical analysis, especially the finite volume method (FVM), is one of the primary approaches employed when evaluating a building environment. A complicated geometry can degrade the mesh quality, leading to numerical diffusions and errors.

Quality meshing for polyhedra with small angles [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the twentieth annual symposium on Computational geometry, 2004
We present an algorithm to compute a Delaunay mesh conforming to a polyhedron possibly with small input angles. The radius-edge ratio of most output tetrahedra are bounded by a constant, except possibly those that are provably close to small angles.

A Survey of Indicators for Mesh Quality Assessment

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, 2023
AbstractWe analyze the joint efforts made by the geometry processing and the numerical analysis communities in the last decades to define and measure the concept of “mesh quality”. Researchers have been striving to determine how, and how much, the accuracy of a numerical simulation or a scientific computation (e.g., rendering, printing, modeling ...

Quality Mesh Generation in Higher Dimensions [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Computing, 2000
Triangulation of a \(d\)-dimensional region is considered. The mesh generation algorithm, called QMG, is a quadtree-based algorithm that can triangulate any polyhedral region including nonconvex regions with holes. The algorithm guarantees a bounded aspect ratio triangulation if the input domain contains no sharp angles.

Improved GETMe by adaptive mesh smoothing

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2017
Mesh smoothing improves mesh quality by node relocation without altering mesh topology. Such methods play a vital role in finite element mesh improvement with a direct consequence on the quality of the discretized solution.

MPAS‐Ocean Simulation Quality for Variable‐Resolution North American Coastal Meshes

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2020
Climate model components utilizing unstructured meshes enable variable resolution, regionally enhanced simulations within global domains. Here we investigate the relationship between mesh quality and simulation statistics using the JIGSAW unstructured ...

A Triangle Mesh Standardization Method Based on Particle Swarm Optimization. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
To enhance the triangle quality of a reconstructed triangle mesh, a novel triangle mesh standardization method based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed. First, each vertex of the mesh and its first order vertices are fitted to a cubic curve

As-equilateral-as-possible surface remeshing

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2015
Surface remeshing aims to produce a high-quality mesh from a given input mesh. In this paper, we present a practical approach to isotropic surface remeshing of triangular meshes in an as-equilateral-as-possible (AEAP) manner.
