3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Mesh-based tool path calculations for tubular joints

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2020
Manufacturing of large steel tube structures is faced with excessive welding, fit-up and rework times in tube joints, due to various types of deviation from nominal shape of the tubes.

Trailing Edge Flap Effects on Dynamic Stall Vortex and Unsteady Aerodynamic Forces on a Pitching Airfoil

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2022
This study focuses on the effect of the upward deflection of trailing edge flap (TEF) on the strength and trajectory of dynamic stall vortex (DSV) around a pitching airfoil by means of numerical simulations based on unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier ...

Composites of Shellac and Silver Nanowires as Flexible, Biobased, and Corrosion‐Resistant Transparent Conductive Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...

Research on Ship Hull Hybrid Surface Mesh Generation Algorithm Based on Ship Surface Curvature Features

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Mesh generation is a critical preprocessing step in Computational Fluid Dynamics. In ship hydrodynamics, existing mesh generation methods lack adaptability to complex hull surface geometries, necessitating repeated optimization.

Unified Gas-kinetic Scheme with Multigrid Convergence for Rarefied Flow Study

open access: yes, 2017
The unified gas kinetic scheme (UGKS) is a direct modeling method based on the gas dynamical model on the mesh size and time step scales. With the implementation of particle transport and collision in a time-dependent flux function, the UGKS can recover ...

Mesh smoothing: An MMPDE approach

open access: yes, 2015
We study a mesh smoothing algorithm based on the moving mesh PDE (MMPDE) method. For the MMPDE itself, we employ a simple and efficient direct geometric discretization of the underlying meshing functional on simplicial meshes. The nodal mesh velocities can be expressed in a simple, analytical matrix form, which makes the implementation of the method ...

Smoothness of Stationary Subdivision on Irregular Meshes [PDF]

open access: yesConstructive Approximation, 2000
The goal of this comprehensive work is to establish characterizations for tangent plane continuity and \(C^k\)-continuity of subdivision surfaces at extraordinary vertices. The author shows that any subdivision surface in \(\mathbb R^3\) can be regarded as a projection of a unique universal surface in a higher-dimensional space.
