Post-Brexit: Untangling the fishing mesh
Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law, 2020Fisheries is one of the key issues in the negotiations for an agreement between the UK and the EU on their future relationship. At the end of the transition period, the UK will have full sovereignty over its waters but the EU is demanding the continuation of the existing pattern of fishing as far as possible.

Untangling polygonal and polyhedral meshes via mesh optimization
Engineering with Computers, 2014We propose simple and efficient optimization-based untangling strategies for 2D polygonal and 3D polyhedral meshes. The first approach uses a size-based mesh metric, which eliminates inverted elements by averaging element size over the entire mesh.

Improved Simultaneous Mesh Untangling and Quality Improvement Methods of 2D Triangular Meshes
International Journal of Computational Methods, 2019Few inverted or poor quality elements can ruin both the accuracy and efficiency of numerical solutions. This paper proposes improved mesh untangling and quality improvement methods using the modified mesh quality metric for 2D triangular meshes. The new mesh quality metric ensures highly inverted elements assign higher penalty when the signed area of ...

Local optimization-based simplicial mesh untangling and improvement
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2000The authors present an optimization based approach to simplicial mesh untangling that uses linear programming techniques to maximize the minimum area or volume in a local submesh. It is also proved that the linear programming approach is guaranteed to converge for local simplicial submeshes, but the global convergence of both optimization-based mesh ...

A log-barrier method for mesh quality improvement and untangling
Engineering with Computers, 2012The presence of a few inverted or poor-quality mesh elements can negatively affect the stability, convergence and efficiency of a finite element solver and the accuracy of the associated partial differential equation solution. We propose a mesh quality improvement and untangling method that untangles a mesh with inverted elements and improves its ...

A parallel log-barrier method for mesh quality improvement and untangling
Engineering with Computers, 2014The development of parallel algorithms for mesh generation, untangling, and quality improvement is of high importance due to the need for large meshes with millions to billions of elements and the availability of supercomputers with hundreds to thousands of cores.
