Tetrahedron Letters, 1992 Abstract Porphyrins with meso-alkynyl substituents have been synthesised from trimethylsilyl propynal. Their red-shifted UV spectra and unusual reactivity towards nucleophiles indicate that there is good overlap between the porphyrin π-systems and the triple bonds.
