Actinomycosis of the transverse mesocolon

Abstract 1. 1. In the vast majority of cases of abdominal actinomycosis, the infection is secondary to perforative gastrointestinal disease. 2. 2. A case is presented of primary actinomycosis of the transverse mesocolon without evidence of pre-existing colonic disease or a break in continuity of the underlying colonic mucous membrane.

Internal herniation involving the sigmoid mesocolon

Two cases of internal hernia involving the sigmoid colon are reported. Comparison of their presentations and operative findings are made. Both highlight the need to be aware of the dangers of internal herniation and the consideration of such diagnoses in the patient who has no external hernia or previous history of abdominal operations.

[Malignant mesenchymoma of the mesocolon].

A rare case of malignant mesenchymoma in a 58-year-old woman is described. The tumor grew rapidly for a month and was located in the mesosigmoid. The resected tumor measured 25 X 20 X 20 cm and weighed 5,000 g. It metastasized into the great omentum within four months after operation.

[Ewing sarcoma of the mesocolon].

This case-report studies the clinical, radiological, anatomopatholo-gical and therapeutic aspects of peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumours (PNET). PNET are neoplasms with a similar histology to tumours in the Ewing family. Diagnosis requires histopathology, immunohistochemistry and cytogenetic studies.
