Our results provide clear evidence for the value of the large scale of the Chagos Archipelago very large marine protected area (VLMPA) for protection of taxonomically diverse mobile megafauna. Bryozoan habitats throughout the world and in Australia are rare, unique and fragile ecosystems at risk of anthropogenic disturbance. Here we describe new bryozoan habitats in Western Port, an Australian RAMSAR site near Melbourne, which do not feature in previous ecological descriptions and current habitat mapping available for the region.
