낙동강 및 주변 해역과 도시로부터 대형 쓰레기가 많이 유입되는 것으로 알려진 거제도 동부해안의 5개 정점(구영, 흥남, 덕포, 와현, 명사)과 낙동강 입구의 1개 정점(진우도)의 모래해변에서 2012년 5월에 미세플라스틱의 현존량을 조사하였다. 현장에서 대형쓰레기가 가장 많이 표착한 해안선을 따라 대형쓰레기의 양이 가장 많은 지역과 가장 적은 지역으로 나누고 각 지역에 10 m x 10 m의 구간을 설정하였다. 각 구간 안에서 쓰레기가 표착한 해안선을
