A THz-Vibration to THz-Radiation Converter Based on Gold Nanoobjects: a Feasibility Study [PDF]
The estimations done confirm a feasibility of the idea that gold nanobars (GNBs) and nanorings (GNRs) irradiated by microwaves could become the terahertz (THz) emitters with photon energies within the full width at half maximum of longitudinal acoustic phononic DOS of gold (~13.7-17.5 meV, i.e., 3.3-4.2 THz).

Dynamic and Static Transmission Electron Microscopy Studies on Structural Evaluation of Au nano islands on Si (100) Surface [PDF]
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study on morphological changes in gold nanostructures deposited on Si (100) upon annealing under different vacuum conditions has been reported. Au thin films of thickness ~2.0 nm were deposited under high vacuum condition (with the native oxide at the interface of Au and Si) using thermal evaporation.

Gold in Britain : past, present and future [PDF]
Britain is a country with modest gold deposits. At least six tonnes, possibly up to ten tonnes, of gold have been recovered from numerous localities in Britain.

Properties of pulsed-laser deposited nanocomposite NiO:Au thin films for gas sensing applications [PDF]
Nanocomposite thin films formed by gold nanoparticles embedded in a nickel oxide matrix have been synthesized by a new variation of the pulsed laser deposition technique. Two actively synchronized laser sources, a KrF excimer laser at 248 nm and an Nd:YAG laser at 355 nm, were used for the simultaneous ablation of nickel and gold targets in oxygen ...

Modeling singular mineralization processes due to fluid pressure fluctuations [PDF]
Mineralization in the Earth's crust can be regarded as a singular process resulting in large amounts of mass accumulation and element enrichment over short time or space scales. The elemental concentrations modeled by fractals and multifractals show self-

Ion induced segregation in gold nanostructured thin films on silicon [PDF]
We report a direct observation of segregation of gold atoms to the near surface regime due to 1.5 MeV Au2+ ion impact on isolated gold nanostructures deposited on silicon. Irradiation at fluences of 6x10^13, 1x10^14 and 5x10^14 ions cm-2 at a high beam flux of 6.3x1012 ions cm-2 s-1 show a maximum transported distance of gold atoms into the silicon ...

Instability of the topological surface state in Bi$_2$Se$_3$ upon deposition of gold [PDF]
Momentum resolved photoemission spectroscopy indicates the instability of the Dirac surface state upon deposition of gold on the (0001) surface of the topological insulator Bi$_2$Se$_3$. Based on the structure model derived from extended x-ray absorption fine structure experiments showing that gold atoms substitute bismuth atoms, first principles ...

Behaviour of trace elements in arsenian pyrite in ore deposits [PDF]
As-bearing pyrite is one of the main hosts for Au and other trace elements in epithermal, Carlin and mesothermal (orogenic) Au deposits. A review of our own and published SIMS, EMPA, LA-ICP-MS and PIXE analyses of pyrite from these deposits suggests that
