Mesotrione: a new selective herbicide for use in maize

Pest Management Science, 2001
Mesotrione is a new herbicide being developed for the selective pre- and post-emergence control of a wide range of broad-leaved and grass weeds in maize (Zea mays). It is a member of the benzoylcyclohexane-1,3-dione family of herbicides, which are chemically derived from a natural phytotoxin obtained from the Californian bottlebrush plant, Callistemon ...

Evaluation of Mesotrione in Mississippi Delta Corn Production

Weed Technology, 2004
Field studies were conducted in Arkansas in 1999, 2000, and 2001 to evaluate mesotrione applied preemergence (PRE) and postemergence (POST) for weed control in corn grown in the Mississippi Delta region of the United States. Mesotrione was applied PRE (140, 210, and 280 g/ha) alone and POST (70, 105, and 140 g/ha), alone or in tank mixtures with ...

Electrochemical determination of mesotrione at organoclay modified glassy carbon electrodes

Talanta, 2013
A natural Cameroonian smectite-type clay (SaNa) was exchanged with cationic surfactants, namely cetyltrimethylammonium (CTA) and didodecyldimethyl ammonium (DDA) modifying its physico-chemical properties. The resulting organoclays that have higher adsorption capacity for mesotrione than the pristine SaNa clay, have been used as modifiers of glassy ...

Mechanism of Antagonism of Mesotrione on Sulfonylurea Herbicides

Weed Science, 2007
Studies were conducted to determine if altered absorption, translocation, or metabolism were the basis for the reduction in sulfonylurea herbicide efficacy on foxtail species when mesotrione was mixed with a sulfonylurea herbicide. Green foxtail and yellow foxtail plants were grown in the greenhouse and treated at the four-leaf stage with14C-labeled ...

2010
Field experiments were carried out during the 2006 growing season at University Farm of Thessaloniki to study the combined activity of the herbicides nicosulfuron mesotrione against johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense L.) and broadleaf weeds on corn (Zea mays L.).

New procedures for simultaneous determination of mesotrione and atrazine in water and soil. Comparison of the degradation processes of mesotrione and atrazine

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2011
A method for the determination of residues of mesotrione, atrazine and its degradation products: deethylatrazine, hydroxyatrazine, deisopropylatrazine, desethyldesisopropylatrazine in a variety of water and soil matrices has been developed. Mesotrione is a new selective herbicide for use in corn, which has been substituted for atrazine, which has been ...

Suppression of Field Paspalum in Kentucky Bluegrass with Mesotrione

Applied Turfgrass Science, 2012
Field paspalum (Paspalum laeve Michx.) is a problematic, perennial weed in lawns, athletic turf, and golf courses from Texas to New Jersey with similar biology to dallisgrass (Paspalum dilatatum Poir.). The loss of monosodium methanearsonate (MSMA) from the market requires an alternative for field paspalum control in cool‐season turf.

Efficacy of Sulfonylurea Herbicides when Tank Mixed with Mesotrione

Weed Technology, 2008
Experiments were conducted in the greenhouse and the field to evaluate the efficacy of various sulfonylurea herbicides applied with mesotrione or mesotrione + atrazine. The addition of mesotrione or mesotrione + atrazine to sulfonylurea herbicides had no adverse effects on the control of large crabgrass or velvetleaf in a controlled environment.

Voltammetric determination of mesotrione at hanging mercury drop electrode

Journal of Analytical Chemistry, 2007
A study of the electrochemical reduction of the mesotrione pesticide on a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) was performed as a basis for the development of a sensitive analytical method for natural samples. The electrochemical characteristics of herbicide mesotrione dissolved in a phosphate buffer (pH 7.0) have been determined by means of ...
