Oral glucose tolerance testing at 1 h and 2 h: relationship with glucose and cardiometabolic parameters and agreement for pre-diabetes diagnosis in patients with morbid obesity

open access: yesDiabetology & Metabolic Syndrome, 2022
Background One hour plasma glucose concentration (1hPG) during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) may be an alternative to 2-h plasma glucose concentration (2hPG) in the identification of individuals at increased risk of hyperglycaemia, although its ...

Lack of GPNMB Is Associated With Altered Lipid and Glucose Metabolism and Disrupted Diurnal Hepatic Glycogen Regulation

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 6, 31 March 2026.
Loss of GPNMB function in mice fed a high‐fat/high‐fructose diet aggravated adiposity and dyslipidemia while preserving systemic glucose tolerance. This phenotype was associated with impaired hepatic AKT–FOXO1 signaling, increased NF‐κB activation, altered glycogen metabolism, and rhythmic disturbances in energy expenditure and clock gene expression ...

Description of a patient with developmental delay and dysmorphic features caused by a novel SHANK2 deletion

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Medical Human Genetics, 2023
Background The SHANK gene, located on chromosome 11q13.3-q13.4, encodes the SHANK2 protein with a function in neuronal synapses. An error in coding can alter the development of typical cognitive, linguistic and social skills.

Methylglyoxal Affects Dopamine Homeostasis in SH‐SY5Y Cells Through the Modulation of miR‐190a and miR‐214

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 5, 15 March 2026.
In SH‐SY5Y cells, Methylglyoxal (MGO) reduces the intracellular dopamine content, up‐regulating the expression of proteins that modulate dopamine amount (MAO‐B, COMT, and α‐Syn). The MGO‐induced increase of COMT and α‐Syn expression is mediated by the reduction of miR‐214 and miR‐190a levels.

Acute Effects of Transcutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation on Autonomic Nervous System Activity in Healthy Volunteers: An Exploratory Study

open access: yesNeurourology and Urodynamics, Volume 45, Issue 3, Page 627-634, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Autonomic nervous system (ANS) imbalance may contribute to functional pelvic disorders such as overactive bladder (OAB). Transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (TTNS) is a non‐invasive therapy for OAB; however, its autonomic modulation mechanisms remain unclear. This exploratory study evaluated the acute effects of TTNS on ANS activity in

The tasiR‐ARF pathway in plants: origin, functions, and interplay of miR‐390, tasiRNAs and ARF3

open access: yesPlant Biology, Volume 28, Issue 2, Page 328-344, March 2026.
Trans‐acting small interfering RNAs that silence a subset of Auxin Response Factors are crucial for plant growth, developmental timing, proper organ patterning, and coping with stress. Abstract Trans‐acting small interfering RNA (tasiRNAs) are a special type of endogenous small RNAs (sRNAs) found only in plants.
