Arthroscopy of the Metacarpophalangeal Joint

Operative Techniques in Orthopaedics, 2007
The use of arthroscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving small joints is growing. In 1979, Chen was the first to describe arthroscopy of the metacarpophalangeal (MP) joint for arthroscopic synovectomy in a patient with rheumatoid synovitis (Chen, Orthop Clin North Am 10:723-733, 1979).

The Rheumatoid Metacarpophalangeal Joint

Hand Clinics, 2011
Rheumatoid metacarpophalangeal joint deformities remain an important cause of disability. Surgical intervention in carefully selected patients improves function and prolongs independence. This article discusses the commonly used reconstructive techniques and their benefits.

Dorsal locking of the metacarpophalangeal joint

The Journal of Hand Surgery: Journal of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, 1987
Many causes for metacarpophalangeal joint locking have been documented. However nearly all are from volar entrapment of periarticular structures. The following case, unlike those previously reported in the literature, was one with locking caused by dorsal entrapment.

Injuries of the Metacarpophalangeal Joint of the Thumb

Hand, 1971
Abstract A review of fifty patients with injury to the ulnar collateral ligament of the metacarpophalangeal joint of thumb has been carried out. In over two thirds the injury resulted from a simple fall. In one third of the cases there was a delay in treatment of over a month.

Dual Dislocation of Metacarpophalangeal Joints

Hand, 1972

Collateral Ligament Injuries of the Thumb Metacarpophalangeal Joint

Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2011
The ulnar and radial collateral ligaments are primary stabilizers of the thumb metacarpophalangeal (MP) joint. Injury to these ligaments can lead to instability and disability. Stress testing is essential to establish the diagnosis.

Changes in shape and length of the collateral and accessory collateral ligaments of the metacarpophalangeal joint during flexion.

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. American volume, 2011
BACKGROUND Although the collateral and accessory collateral ligaments of the metacarpophalangeal joint contribute to the stability of this joint, the functional role of the various portions of these ligaments during flexion is unclear.

The Metacarpophalangeal Joints in Interphalangeal Osteoarthritis

Radiology, 1973
Case material and roentgenograms of 30 patients with interphalangeal osteoarthritis and 30 with rheumatoid arthritis were studied in an effort to determine if the two diseases could be differentiated radiographically. Narrowing of the interosseous spaces of the interphalangeal joints is commonplace in osteoarthritis, and, because it is ...
